Wolves vs Palace.....Match Thread

entertaining game. Players gave their all. Chalobah scored a wonderful goal but otherwise was a disaster. Lost count number of times he gave balls away under no pressure. Same w kamada. A nightmare. Total lightweight. Nketia only shoots directly at keeper. Another lightweight. Fear arsenal have sold us a pup. Munoz Hughes mateta Mitchell gushing n lecroixexcellent. Saar showing promise. Why on earth did OG send unfit schlupp on again.. we won’t play a worse team than wolves. Pleased with a point but should have been 3

But there again you don't really have any idea what'one of the youngsters' could or couldn't have done; making unfounded assumptions seems an odd way to avoid slagging off a player who actually had quite a decent game overall today if you don't like doing it.
I don't like doing it which is why I seldom do. I'm working on the assumption that any competent player could have done what he did today and hopefully a bit more. What concerns me is that the highest paid player at the club has so far contributed so little and the possible effect that might have on the rest of the team.

I thought we looked really good.loads of great chances. Nketiah and Sarr’s finishing is of course worrying. Headless chickens springs to mind with no goal scoring composure. I hope they come right and they’re not two lemons. Thank god for Mateta!!

Anyway..Onwards and upwards

Yes! Chalobah has been responsible for a few goals in the past week. Yes, he had a fantastic goal today, but reminds me of Sakho, good periods and lapses in judgement.

Kamada is not up to it. I wish he was, but compare him to the better midfielders, how any of them give the ball away 4 times in 5 minutes? None, not even close.

I thought we played well today. We had no bench. A point at wolves wasn’t bad, considering our squad. Happy that Decoure is back.

Lecroix is quickly becoming my favourite on the pitch. And Hughes was amazing.

Nketiah just doesn't offer anything, Not a winger and can't play through the middle. He and Kamada just keep giving the ball away when we are in attacking positions that leave us exposed as the back four have pushed forward .Both of them just need to play the simple ball.

Third game where Mitchell hasn't managed to put the ball in the box despite having decent opportunities to do so

Having said that Will Hughes immense ,Lacroix excellent, and Sarr at least gets in great positions and causes the opposition defence problems

Didn’t get to watch the game unfortunately however just had a Quick Look at the highlights on YouTube read a few comments a lot of the wolves fans think the goal should have stood

He lost his man for their first goal, beaten to easily, he also blocked Mateta's shot from going in, they weren't amazing moments.
Guehi most tackles, most completed passes and scored equaliser.

But if you're gonna complain about Chalabah then Guehi has to take a big chunk of blame for the first goal. His charge up the pitch left Lacroix exposed and no one to mark Larson (bit similar to Anderson for first Brentford goal on opening day).

Although I think Taylor didn't have a really bad day I still think he got the two big decisions wrong. The fact we didn't even get a free kick for the Dawson handball and it then led to Hendo nearly getting concusion! And then he bottled it in the last minute by not letting the goal stand!

We were robbed by a poor decision. The keeper did not have full control of the ball. That seems to be how the season is going.
Over all, we should have won with the chanced created but given we were missing key players it was a good point.
Losing Hughes for a game unnecessarily when we are short in midfield was just stupid but almost inevitable.
Good to see Doucoure back. Let's hope he stays fit this time.

Sarr. His finishing has to improve. Kamada looked better tonight, which wasn't difficult.

We battle on.

Didn’t realise until seeing the Wolves equaliser after the match that the player controlling the ball before passing it to the scorer had the ball run down his arm as well as his chest. Surely VAR look at these things. How can that not be handball? And our third goal that was disallowed looked like the keeper didn’t control the ball allowing Mateta to stroke it home? After seeing the Westham penalty given last week against Man Utd I’m struggling to understand what use VAR is. Might as well scrape it and go back to refs and assistants making poor decisions again. Complete waste of time if those in a studio can’t see right or wrong on the pitch :-(

Both Kamada and chalobah have improved. I think Chalobah has a future. He hasn’t made it through all the youth stages to U21 without talent. He is a result of the Chelsea academy which fails so many young players. If he had his head screwed on he would instruct his agent to find him a permanent transfer to someone like us.
Watching Nat Clyne come on was so good having watched him as a young kid making his debut all those years ago for us.

Despite a decent show considering the situation with injuries to key players and it being the third game in six days, I do think it was a case of 2 points dropped today.
I don’t think Wolves would have come back from being two down if Sarr could’ve netted one of several gilt edged chances.

Keep reading encouraging reports about Devenny from the U21s. Like with Ozoh, I wonder if now is the time to give some of these younger talents a go? He certainly can’t be any worse than Kamada!
From what I've seen he's a tidy midfield player, not going to pull up trees but not gaffe prone either. When you look at 21 football the thing that stands out a lot is the amount of mistakes players are making and the relative lack of that is where Devenny seems to shine.

Like Ozoh he definitely has a future in the game, maybe he's doing very well in first team training but personally I'd prefer if he went on loan in the championship first.

Begging to disagree there, as I've seen Southampton FC and Ipswich FC at least twice each this season and neither possess the quality of players such as Ait-Nouri, Semado, Gomes, Lemina and above all, Cunha. And let's not forget they had £30m GBP Andre on the bench who wasn't really fit enough like Lemina to start. That's half a team! But they need to sort their defence out because it's shockingly bad.

Although I'm not about to start agreeing with Clinton Morrison & Co in the sky studio afterwards saying Wolverhampton FC will be absolutely fine this season, because if they stay put in the EPL, they will finish 17th and be very fortunate that the 3 promoted teams fared off as the season goes on, which tends to happen more and more now, a-la Luton FC last season.

the comentator explained that VAR did look at the first goal (as they do with every goal) but as it was the player that passed the ball rather than the scorer then they won't intervene.

First of all an absolutely cracking game. Wolves didn't play like a relegation-threatened team and Palace were better, which was encouraging with, arguably, three of their top five players out of the starting line-up.
Mateta was a beast, particularly in the first half, and was unlucky not to have at least one goal. Hughes had another decent game and Kamada probably his best for the club although he still was found out defensively - he was turned for one of the goals, although Chaloboah was more at fault. The latter took his goal well but managed to deny both himself and Mateta twice within 3 seconds. He looks like he is always going to have a mistake in him, unfortunately.
Sarr and Nketiah both tried hard but the former just has to take one of the golden chances he has and the latter, apart from one decent cross, just does not bring enough to the table. I'd bring Doucoure in to partner Hughes and have Kamada replacing Eddie for the next game
Does Glasner get a bonus if Schlupp gets on the pitch?

Unfortunately, Hughes has 5 yellow cards and does not play against Fulham
