Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

My 10p worth.

Perhaps OG has been assured that Eze and MG are staying. On a financial level MG staying to see out his contract is not good but from a football point of view to replace him will cost a s*** load of cash. Eze is a bit different as when he’s good he is irreplaceable. However another season with the both of them and basically the fa cup winning team all still here (and how good they were the second half of the season) we will be fine. We now have cover at LWB which we know we needed. The young kid that played in the first game today in the back 3 looked a good player and has cost f*** all. Given another year with this team plus some time for the likes of Esse to get up to the required level under OG, with Woody in place and hopefully a decent run in whichever European cup we are in I honestly think it’s not that bad if we only get a couple of last minute squad prospects on the final day (as we always do). Of course I would love to see a big signing but as others have said, who would actually be available that we could afford that displaces any of our starting team?

I didn’t say we did !!!

Hackney is a player we have been linked with and mentioned further up this thread - so I thought it might be of interest - clearly not to you - “ just go out and get him “ - have you considered that actually we don’t want him and it’s just more Clickbait ?

As for a “ crap window “ - it’s over then is it ??
So why mention the 20m bid that Ipswich put in then as if our interest in him is as you say “clickbait” surely if we had no interest in the player you wouldn’t care or mention the bid. No the window is not over but doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been rubbish.

I said it could have been Clickbait - that’s how a lot of these links to players work. I don’t understand what your problem is understanding that.

Most people would judge how good a transfer window had been at the end of it.

I’d prefer it if we had signed a couple more players to strengthen the squad given that we have European football to look forward to , and give them more time to integrate. But I’m prepared to look at the bigger picture rather than just bitch and moan because that hasn’t happened yet.

You can judge a window during it tho, ideally you want to do your buisness early, having a full preseason, allowing the players to gel and the manager to get his ideas across and bed new players into his way of playing, in that respect its been a poor window.

This is a key reason for our lack of activity imo.

We might see a domino effect if someone does come in for one or more key first team players, but otherwise I would not be surprised to see one maybe two incoming max.

I think it's reasonable to judge at the end of the window.

But that's not the point
.
Glasner has explicitly said he was promised that business would be undertaken earlier.

He's not a 'toy's out of the pram' manager and is considered in his utterances.
He's worried that the club will have a sluggish start through repeating the mistakes from last pre-season.

He may not have extended his contract in any event, but broken promises surely won't help.

From my standpoint if we retain Eze and Guehi so can field the team that finished the season I'd be quite happy, provided we get some added squad cover.

It would seem from his comments that Glasner does not see it that way , and his view is far more important than mine!

We've spent 3 million so far, thats not even competitive in the championship
Its not how much we spend or the quantity, its what Glasner wants and what we can afford. you or I dont know what is happening, wait till the end of the window then decide. you would have to pay probably 30m+ to replace any of the first 11, at the moment.

We know what glasner wanted, buisness done early, which hasn't happened.

Glasner wants more players and a small squad, he will get 25 players max, or perhaps like Pep last year started with a squad of twenty.

For the sake of clarity you didn’t say “could have been click bait” you said “you got lured in by some clickbait”..!!

And you accuse me of being confused..!!🤷‍♂️

Looking at the Teams section of the Official CPFC Website, it is easy to get the impression that all business has been done, or that CPFC will need to be tempted to make any purchase. The Women and under 21 and under 18 do not feature - we can only see the men.

the two imports do not yet have squad numbers. however they are joined by five promoted from the Academy making seven new members of the squad. If you add joe Whitworth - added, I brelieve, since last season - we have eight new players available for selection. Five goalkeepers indicates some preparation for Europe, the League, plus the two Cups.

Time until the Window ends could be interesting.

Well you’re splitting hairs anyway - but I thank you for correcting me.

Ultimately, neither you or I or anyone else on here knows what genuine interest Palace have shown in any of the players on the various clickbait sites.

I think the one thing we can agree on is the preference of bringing new players in as early in the window as possible. And we have read OG’s comments to an Austrian journalist.

We’ve all made promises that for whatever reason we have been unable to keep. And I think in this instance the UEFA situation has caused disruption to Palaces plans. So a degree of patience is required - and as you have perhaps noticed, I’m not blessed with much of that myself.

It’s still the case that the situation for OG is not the same as last year. Everyone back in training together and injury free is so much better than , Wharton coming back injured, England, and Colombian, players all back probably exhausted, both countries reaching finals. And what was left spread between here and the USA.
In a perfect situation it’s good to get your recruits in early , outside of the top sides and promoted few do.
A promise is a promise however and if OG had identified what he wanted and insisted on having them early , with Parish, agreeing then it’s a problem whether it affects our start or otherwise.

I’ll take that as a begrudging apology for your earlier unnecessary ire towards me for my own opinions on this matter..!!

No hard feelings..!!

We all want the same thing a successful Palace team..!!

COYP..!!!

I don't like to hear managers say stuff like this as it's a clear warning of pissedoffness

I agree.

It reads as a very measured ‘FFS, I’m not happy’.

I can see why. It always sounds to me as though a lot of promises are made to managers by the Board despite them knowing full well what their real intentions are, and the hope is just that the managers will suck it up. I think the kids call it ‘gaslighting ‘ these days. Not an inspiring situation if so.

We should be in a better situation. Richards is one who is just back and he made a couple of horrendous errors against Mainz. Liverpool did very little last season and that worked out fine, The assumption is that because they have spent a lot they will be even better but you never know
I would still like us to get something for Guehi. Didn't Glasner quit his previous job because he wasn't backed by the board?
