Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

Current set up has only been in place a week with Johnson replacing Textor! Palace will have who they want lined up, but it will depend on departures. Its similar to dominoes, once one falls everything starts to move.
As stated by another poster, acquiring players is not the same as popping into Tesco and buying a new loaf of bread, its a lot more complicated. The main criteria's are they going to improve the squad and are they the right character to gel with the squad and Glasners tactics.
It would appear Glasner doesn't share your view,, even with his knowledge that acquiring players is not like popping into Tesco.

He's probably in a better position than posters on here as to the state of the squad going into the new season.

No doubt he doesn't want to go into fixtures again this season with a bench containing 2 keepers, 2 veterans and 3 untried youngsters as happened on a number of occasions last season.

We still managed a fine season and the club is well run, but there does appear to be a mis match between what Glasner wants and what he can get at Palace.

What Johnson brings it's too early to tell, but it's unlikely that the club will spend huge sums.
If e.g Eze was unavailable through injury it's unlikely we'd have a player of equivalent talent to replace him.
Top clubs have the luxury to replace like for like when players are unavailable, and I don't see us being in that category.

Why are you talking about replacements - we need to improve our squad depth - irrespective of whether anyone departs or not..!!
I thought my post might confuse you. Not difficult to be fair.

The '' replacements '' would be for the likes of Guehi and Eze should we sell them.

I then wrote '' I think any more signings to strengthen the squad will come but there could be some price corrections that come into play before they happen. ''

You do realise that of the three players you have mentioned, Diomande has a release clause of 80m Euros, and Guessand I'm willing to bet you'd never even heard of until you got lured in by some clickbait. Ipswich have bid £20m for Hackney so let's see how that lands price wise.

No, we'd never be in a position to top tier players in every position.

But most teams in the league would struggle if they lost a stay player. City struggled last year without Rodri, Arsenal went off the boil when they lost Saka etc.

Arsenal and City don't go into games with a bench containing 2 keepers, 2 veterans and 3 untried youngsters.

I don't expect us to be able to compete with them

The broader point I was making is the apparent mismatch in ambition between the club and Glasner.
Such things hapoen in football and life, but we shouldn't be making promises to him we can't keep.

I really hope we're not gating our summer work on the Europe decision. The prize money for reaching the semi final of Europa is only £11m. The semi final of the Conference is about £6m. It's irrelevant.

Right now, we don't have the quality squad depth to conpete in the Europa League and the Premier League over the winter. There are only 3 positions on the team that we can reasonably rotate without noticing the drop in quality - LWB, and the CMs.

I can completely understand Glasner's frustration - especially after he had to pick up the pieces after last summer. We will never qualify for Europe via the league if we keep giving ourselves a 32 game league season to do it in.

Agreed it is small fry financially.

But it might be more relevant in terms of who we can attract to the club and what squad depth the staff think we need. Also, which/how many players we might let move on this window (plus who might want to move) and the recruitment knock on effects of that.

You confused me - of course silly me you are so far more intelligent and on a different intellectual plane to me..!!

Yes even as dumb as you seem to think I am I do realise how much the 3 players I mentioned would cost - but we are in the big league now - we either embrace it or lose it..!!

Woody - get your wallet out.
Why would he? He is in the same position as Textor: biggest shareholder with 'no decisive influence'. Plus he will learn from his predecessor's issues.

Unless he can buy out at least one of the other shareholders, the only situation I can see him ponying up is in a January window if we are in a relegation fight and he needs to protect his investment. Or, more positively, if we are looking good for Champions League qualification and a big signing or two might get us there

Have I missed something or didn’t OG just say he was promised early signings - hasn’t happened and we haven’t made the most of the transfer window so far..!!

That’s how I know came from the Managers own mouth..!!
Do you not realise that situations have changed since then, Europa/Conference you may have heard about it, a massive difference in income what competition we are in.

I fail to understand why some people on here cant understand that, incredible.

Chelsea earnt 14.8m for winning the Conference, Spurs 27.4m for winning the Europa, plus Champions league spot, another guaranteed 14m, big difference

Do you seriously believe that SP has two budgets depending on whether we are in Europa or not - if so you have far more faith than me..!!

All I see is normal SP procrastination / doing the usual late Business thing - despite obvious reassurances to OG we’d do our Business early.!!

This year he has the whole Europa thing to dance around and blame..!!

What I struggle with is that’s it’s the same season after season and people still fall for the same rhetoric..!!

The only reason to delay is if you're worried about lost revenue from not being in Europa leaving us short of cash. The revenue we'd lose in year between the two tournaments is the sake of the PL prize money we lost out on by pissing around last summer leaving us 3 points short of 9th. It's not worth waiting for certainty on.

The prize money is less than that anyway, that could in a Euro currency. Plus £10m of it comes from being in the final which is very unlikely.

Some sources:
TNT: How much is the Champions League, Europa League prize money? How much do the winners receive?
BBC: Tottenham: How much was winning the Europa League final worth?
UEFA: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...cQFnoECFMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2jwj-s_Q-H4osF50_Fg8TI

That's why I quoted the Semi figures. The Europa League money is heavily skewed for getting to a final this current squad aren't set up to get to and right now aren't even registered for. There is no way the club will be setting a budget this summer that relies on reaching a Europa League final.

£14M is nothing in todays mad football world..!! Would just about buy you an average Championship player..!!

Look £14M to you or me would change ours and our families lives - but in this world it’s nothing, as sad as that is to say.!!

That’s why Prem club owners are not now millionaires they’re all billionaires - us included..!!

Completely irrelevant point we don’t need to wait for Eze and Marc to be sold should be buying players anyway. Who cares if Ipswich have bid for Hackney we should just go and get him if we want him, why are you making excuses for a crap transfer window bit odd

We just can’t afford to have that small club beating the odds mentality and surviving/finishing mid-table anymore - and that’s what I fear we still have..!!

As I said before we either embrace the opportunity or lose it - and that includes keeping a quality Manager and squad..!!

COYP..!!

I still have the glow of Palace winning something.
I think we have an excellent squad, and should only purchase players who are an obvious improvement on what Palace already have.
Palace made Haaland look tame in the final, and I don't think even Salah is much of an improvement on Eze
Parish can keep those purse strings tight. And he probably will
That's why I'm not a professional football manager 😀

I didn’t say we did !!!

Hackney is a player we have been linked with and mentioned further up this thread - so I thought it might be of interest - clearly not to you - “ just go out and get him “ - have you considered that actually we don’t want him and it’s just more Clickbait ?

As for a “ crap window “ - it’s over then is it ??
