Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

I'm not privvy to the conversations either, but do you disbelieve Glasner when he refers to such promises?
Glasner speaks better English than I do and is an intelligent man not given to wild statements.
It's clear he feels let down.

I don't believe that the club has deliberately set out to mislead him, but if Parish has given him an explanation of the reasons for the slow window it does not appear that Glasner has been duly placated.
You don't think that it might just be a bit of mischievous journalism? That Glasner's words have been contorted to make him sound unhappy because that makes better copy? Not that any journalist would ever do that, of course... 🙄

Nobody knows, who, what, or why is happening, Parish would know the most, but i suspect even he is not au fait with everything.
A number of factors influencing things
1. The European debacle
2. Not being able to clear all deadwood - ie. Eduard and Holding
3. Clubs standing firm on transfer fees.
4. also, the new ownership might have something to do with it. Ie. Woody won't sanction any spending until his people have done an assessment

All in all, this could lead to another slow start to the season.

Don't all Germans sound unhappy? They all sound like accountants who wished they had studied physics.

Never heard a happy sounding German.

Not unless they had invaded Poland.

Quote in the media :

"Even though all the players are still here, we haven’t made the most of the transfer window so far. I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.
As of now, I have 17 outfield players! I hope we don’t lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible."

Stirling really! Anyway he's Austrian, and before you say it 'so was Hitler!' Beethoven, Kant, Goethe, Marlene Diechtrich, not to mention Henning Wehn ... come, come.

I cannot venture a response apropos "Germans" or for that matter regarding those who hail from Austria. 👍

All the guy wanted was to build extensions onto Germany.

He just couldn't get the planning permission.

Kept misspelling lebensraum on the application form.

Easily done.

Can't see any room for distortion here (see quote below).

Glasner is a methodical manager who wants to prepare as best as possible for pre season with the fullest squad achievable.
Perfectly reasonable.

Parish wants to achieve the best possible deals for the club even if this means brinkmanship and last minute deals.
Perfectly reasonable.

It's nigh on impossible to achieve both objectives.

Marlene Diechtrich.....she was miserable....even for a German.

Mind you with a load of Henning Wehns to choose from I suppose it's understandable.

Beethoven probably went deliberately deaf so he didn't have to listen to that clipped monotone drone for any longer.

It’s a pretty factual statement from Glasner. Of course he’s disappointed and clearly it might affect how we start if we lose players and recruit late. It doesn’t mean he’s going to resign as implied in much of the click bait today. I’m sure he appreciates the issues at the club currently and the impact on recruitment.
He will see out his contract and move on at the end of the season. He was never going to extend whatever we did this summer. He has bigger fish to fry and probably nearer home.

Me thinks no significant signings shortly = No Glasner.

This is all true and was ever thus.

It begs the question how other clubs manage to successfully conclude early deals in the 'World of Transfers. '
Perhaps we need to ask them them the secret!
It tends to be the very big clubs who are usually successful or the promoted clubs with cash to burn who probably pay over the odds. Even Newcastle with all their cash can’t get deals over the line bar Elanga. Modern transfers are more difficult than 20-30 years ago

I remain convinced that Steve Parish is more than content with 12th place, the interview he gave last season where he mentioned how imperative it is to stay in the Premiership confirmed it to me. The FA cup win was a nice thing to come along, and about time too, and although it may appear to present itself as the next step on the ladder in the rise of CPFC, if there's nothing to match the manager's ambitions (or the players) then any advancement that was thought to be made may well just fizzle away.
Glasner is the best manager we've had in modern times, he'll leave at the end of next season, apply his methods wherever he ends up, and have success. He may even poach some of our better players!

Fair assessment. I think only chance of him extending is more success this year

Just speculation on my part, same as everyone else on this topic, but here goes.

I think there are three factors at play here. In no particular order ;

1. The continuing uncertainty over whether Guehi and Eze are staying. I've mentioned before that Guehi wants to be starting games and that's not guaranteed while Konate remains at Liverpool. Konate is also in the last year of his contract. From Press reports ( I know ) it seems he's planning to run down his contract and walk away on a free transfer next summer. If that's the case, Guehi is highly unlikely to move.
As for Arsenal/Eze, Arsenal look to be hoping that Palace drop the price from the quoted release clause of £67m. Unless the player agitates for this move I can't see it happening nor can I envisage Parish reducing the asking price. So in the Media, all we read about is both players leaving and links to possible replacements - Diomande being an example. We can't afford to sign that player and then Guehi doesn't move.

2. Textor's exit - Johnson's arrival. Possible financial impact to the club while this transaction was in flight - ie. Palace were not able to fund / borrow significant amounts to buy players.

3. The UEFA situation. Not going to rehash all that again.

Now let's look at what others - mainly in what I consider to be our peer group, have been doing ;

Aston Villa - 3 players in at a cost of £5.9m
Bournemouth - 2 in - and they've sold players that will surely leave them weaker this coming season
Brentford - 5 in - funded by the sale of key players
Brighton - 6 in - funded by sales of Joao Pedro, Estupinan, Adingra
Burnley - 10 in - quantity but lacking quality imo
Everton - 4 in - Moyes complaining similar to Glasner
Fulham - 1 in
Leeds - 7 in
Notts Forest - 2 in
Sunderland - 6 in
West Ham - 3 in - one of those is Todibo, loaned out last season but WH had an obligation to buy
Wolves - 3 in

So, the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, City and Chelsea spending big. Man U and Spurs have spent money too. Newcastle are feeling the impact of the Isak situation.

So while wholeheartedly agreeing that it's preferable to get players signed asap in the transfer window and get them integrated into the squad in pre season, the fact is that it's not that simple for a club like ours. Parish may have promised to avoid a repeat of last summers window but he's not in total control over the transfer market. Nor could he have foreseen some of the events of the last few months.

He has history of leaving business late but I don't think it was his intention to do that this time. Glasner is an intelligent guy so I would expect him to understand that there are mitigating circumstances at play here. Yes, he's voiced his frustration publicly and yes, he's fallen out with owners before after winning a trophy. But there's also no media story if he'd said he was happy with what he's got. We'll see !

Apologies for the length of this post.
