Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

So are you suggesting that we invoke “ Plan A “ in advance of selling either of those two before they have actually left the club ?

And how do you know there aren’t plans in place ??

No, id expect us to already have a plan in place in regards to strengthening our squad, regardless of who potentially leaves and if our plan was a back up keeper and defender for a combined 3 million then it's not very good or a successful window so far.

You don’t ‘ get it ‘ when it comes to the Guehi and Eze situations. What happens with them has an impact on how any transfer budget is used.

And look at what other clubs are doing - Palace aren’t the only club to be slow in getting players in - like it or not the window can and will be used right up until the last hour of deadline day.

Broadly, yes.

We can be almost certain that Guehi is leaving the club in the next 12 months - to me it's entirely logical to sign his replacement now, regardless of whether Guehi leaves this summer or next.

We surely can't still be reliant on banking incoming fees immediately to afford transfers of our own - we've just won a cup, qualified for Europe, had a positive net spend last summer etc.

I was trying to figure this out - I'd assume of the 20 outfield players who 'started' yesterday, none of Rak-Sakyi, Jemide or Ahamada are considered first-teamers.
If the club wishes to advance its position after winning the FA cup and entry into Europe, also progressing into the top 10 in the Premiership, then frankly, these players are not at that level, at best they are Championship level. It's what keeps us glued to 12th place - thin squad, lack of real competition for places, starting 11 more or less guaranteed, until the injuries and suspensions kick in. My belief, as mentioned, is Parish is more than happy to make up the numbers. Actually, he's a realist, because the club doesn't have the financial clout to break into the upper echelons of the league. The cup was a very welcome one off, I think this season will prove a real test.

I'm still disappointed by Ahamada's time with us.

Perhaps a wild opinion, but I considered him to be reminiscent of a young (of course) Delli Alle. The kind of player who would break the midfield/forward line and perhaps offer a bit of chaotic and unpredictable threat up the pitch. Seemed very direct whenever he received the ball.

Don't know his situation at all but I'd love to see OG get a tune out of him.

I agree with everyone who is saying our transfer dealings have been at best disappointing.

However the UEFA situation will have had a very great effect from a number of angles.

Firstly the potential income difference between the 2 competition is 20-30 million. This will have a direct effect on who may want to join and if we can afford transfer fee and or wages. Also we do not want to be in breach of financial regulations.

Secondly we do not know details of the sale of Textors shares and what has happened to Textor loans. For instance have they been repaid by club or existing shareholders.

Thirdly We may not have had money to purchase our targets until new shareholder was installed. Textor clearly was not going to fund new loans.

Personally I think we should be funding and looking at replacing Guehi now for a number of reasons. It will make a sale easier and if he is only staying as he feels a guaranteed starter, we may be able to call his bluff with a suitable replacement. Plus we need at least 1 more central defender possibly on loan

Ebz is a bit different as I think he will not push for a move and his release clause closes tomorrow. However I think we have replacement in mind

Yes we need an understudy for Mateta, and in central midfield as a minimum

Surely our manager publicly expressing his frustration is the proof that whatever plans were in place haven't been very successful..?

Of course the outgoings will make a difference to budgets, but as you allude to, there must be a budget/plan identified in the event that we don't make any significant sales, and that budget has to be more than the £3m spent on Sosa.

We are the only club who didn't win any of their first 8 games last season and who's manager very clearly blamed the late transfer dealings as the cause of that, though.

I'd be keen to differentiate Jemide from this criticism - he's a genuinely fantastic prospect and the fact he was given a start yesterday suggests Glasner sees the potential.

Him and Mustapha are the gems of the current crop IMO.

Yeah he seems a rare miss by Dougie.

The fact he was barely used by Rennes last season is a major red flag - that's not a particularly high level and he didn't even make the bench most games.

He's still only 23, so potentially time to turn it around, but it's not looking likely.

It’s widely reported that his release clause is in effect until 16th August (PL start date) so a couple more weeks of speculation.

I share his frustration ! But on the one hand you’re advocating signing Guehi’s replacement before he leaves and on the other acknowledging that his leaving will impact the transfer budget. Let’s say we push on in the belief that he goes and we sign a replacement- for arguments sake let’s say for £30m. And then he doesn’t leave. We then have overspent on a replacement we don’t yet need and have eaten into our budget by doing so.

This time last year, my Fulham contact ( wish I had a Palace one ) told me that Andersen was rejoining them. The deal didn’t complete until the last minute though. But we not only funded his replacement, we got a better, younger replacement for almost have the fee for Andersen. It’s always possible that will happen with Guehi so I would like to think that yes, we have someone lined up should that happen.

The start we made last season was predicted by Glasner himself as he knew that a chunk of the squad were involved in international football over the summer and would have no pre season. It wasn’t solely down to transfer activity as you stated

What so we've got a transfer budget of 3 million unless we sell players ? We would/should have identified players long before the transfer window opened, glasner has made it clear he wanted business done early to prevent a repeat of last season and the board have failed him. Maybe it isn't realistic to expect the club to deliver what he wants but thats the point im making, if we cant match his ambitions, then I don't see him staying.

I’m not saying that £3m is the transfer budget unless we sell players - jeez !!

If we have identified a centre half we think is worth £30m, then absolutely I’m advocating going ahead with that signing irrespective of what happens with Guehi. If our scouting is sound, we should not lose value on that player either way.

In hindsight, and given how good we now know him to be, do you not think we should have signed Lacroix for £16m last summer, regardless of what happened with Andersen..? Because I certainly do.

In fact, Bobby Manzi has just reported the following:

“Crystal Palace are targeting a centre-back, a central midfielder and a forward option ahead of their maiden European campaign. They want these three profiles regardless of outgoings”.

He wanted players signed early. Show me a manager that doesn’t .

So, if it makes you happy, yes the club have failed yet again - I have tried to articulate the possible reasons why but they are clearly lost on you.

Articulate or make excuses ? Whatever makes you feel better.

I got what you were saying. This isn’t black and white as some people want to believe
