Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

I share his frustration ! But on the one hand you’re advocating signing Guehi’s replacement before he leaves and on the other acknowledging that his leaving will impact the transfer budget. Let’s say we push on in the belief that he goes and we sign a replacement- for arguments sake let’s say for £30m. And then he doesn’t leave. We then have overspent on a replacement we don’t yet need and have eaten into our budget by doing so.

This time last year, my Fulham contact ( wish I had a Palace one ) told me that Andersen was rejoining them. The deal didn’t complete until the last minute though. But we not only funded his replacement, we got a better, younger replacement for almost have the fee for Andersen. It’s always possible that will happen with Guehi so I would like to think that yes, we have someone lined up should that happen.

The start we made last season was predicted by Glasner himself as he knew that a chunk of the squad were involved in international football over the summer and would have no pre season. It wasn’t solely down to transfer activity as you stated
Why would £30m be on overspend? If we were to spend £30m then I would expect us to get £30m worth of player and to be honest we need another centre half regardless of whether Guehi stays or goes as 3 at the back is the cornerstone of our setup. Playing Clyne, or Lerma there should be a last resort, not a second choice as it was for much of last season.

If we can’t raise £30m then that’s a different story, however no-one on here knows how much we have to spend or how much we want to spend.

The potential problem with transfers is that if we are reinstated to the Europa League, we might well attract a better quality of player and be more likely to retain our stars.

Because of that, it might be foolish to spend our money before the CAS hearing, even if it is not ideal preparation for Glasner.
Most of our current squad will be at the same lever of fitness, unlike last pre season which was a mess, so we might avoid a slow start either way.

Would we expect to beat Chelsea under any circumstances? Nope.

From what Ive read, our American shareholders could each do that amount in a flash, so no worries there. Question is do they have the inclination.? So much us meagre fans dont know.

If you are talking about buying players, the wealth of our owners doesn't come into it. They could pay for the stadium rebuild of course but not the squad.

Players have to be bought with funds made from football related revenue. The rules allow for 85% of that income to be spent on players, wages etc.

I heard an interview with a former Palace coach who indicated that Glasner saw Lerma more as a centre back option for this season.
Doesn't mean first choice there, but a viable option.
He's clearly demonstrated that he can do a very good job there, and we have competition for midfield places now with Wharton's return to fitness and Kamada's improvement.

We're one centre back down with Chaloboah not being replaced and Riad some way from fitness so I'm sure we'll still be in the market for a centre back, whatever happens with Guehi.

Joel Ward is still available!

the loan option would surely be ideal for a CD, RWB and CF if we retain all our players.

I call it an overspend for that position if it wasn’t a direct replacement for Guehi. A less substantial spend of £15m or ballpark could get a decent squad player. In my opinion if we paid my hypothetical £30m that’s for a starter not back up.

Now we know Glasner has complained about players not coming in but what we don’t know is what his priorities are position wise.

If we have identified a centre half we think is worth £30m, then absolutely I’m advocating going ahead with that signing irrespective of what happens with Guehi. If our scouting is sound, we should not lose value on that player either way.

In hindsight, and given how good we now know him to be, do you not think we should have signed Lacroix for £16m last summer, regardless of what happened with Andersen..? Because I certainly do.

In fact, Bobby Manzi has just reported the following:

“Crystal Palace are targeting a centre-back, a central midfielder and a forward option ahead of their maiden European campaign. They want these three profiles regardless of outgoings”.
You’re comparing my hypothetical £30m with an actual, the £17m we paid for LaCroix.
I would have no issue with Palace paying a similar fee now for a centre back. I think we might have a problem persuading a £30m player to join in the knowledge that he would be competing for a place with the team captain.

Bobby Manzi may well be right and I can see the need for cover given that we have lost Riad and Holding.

Makes 0 difference only Champions League does.

Differences are we will start early with Community Shield plus Europa football and you have missed the point if you wait until the end to bring players in it then takes 4-6 weeks for those players to get up to speed.

From the guy who said aslong as glasner is happy followed by, the club is bigger than glasner if he doesn't like it then he can leave. Yeah that makes perfect sense, let's upset the most successful manager we've ever had.
If he wants to go, F**k off, i have seen 47 changes of manager since my first game in 1969, according to Wikipedia, and will see a few more, i only have one team, Glasner can have who he wants.

It might not make a difference to you, but the Europa has credibility. It is a route to the Champion's League for a start.
It will also make a difference to how much money we have to spend.

Too many fans either conveniently forget this truth or don't realize what the financing rules are.
