Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

There's plenty of variables but ultimately it comes down to money, plus the pull of the prem usually trumps most others, look at Xhaka, his just left leverkusen for Sunderland and it's not like they wanted to sell him.
Very short term solution. I think the last time he played in the PL he was very sporadic with his performances. I doubt that consistency has improved with age.

I was listening to Talkshite on the way back home about half an hour ago and the crap they come out with is so condescending towards any team that isn’t one of the big teams that they love.

Apparently they think Arsenal will be able to negotiate a better deal with Palace for Eze because they are Arsenal. They think Mateta will be off to some foreign team I can’t remember the name of, Guehi will be off to Liverpool, Wharton off to Citeh and he fears for our survival but thinks there might be 3 worse teams.

Honestly, it’s absolutely disgraceful. He had no knowledge whatsoever of whether anything he was saying was true but spouted it like it was probably going to happen without even considering whether we might actually be acquiring players.

I’m totally fed up with this kind of crap continually being spouted.
What Cundy and O’hara know about football can be written on a postage stamp. There show is just about stirring it up to get calls in and listeners. Ignore

Somebody yesterday quoted a journalist named Bobby Manzi regarding Palace's transfer plans in terms of which areas they wanted to strengthen.

He didn't mention this, also from Manzi ;

''Uncertainty over which European competition they will be in though has ‘complicating planning’ when it comes to signings, both due to the budget available and which players they can attract.
Already Genoa defender Koni De Winter stalled a move to Crystal Palace due to the European issue.''
The European competition we end up is a massive issue, anyone who thinks different is deluded.

Yup I have stopped listening to shows like this. They are just shock jocks arguing for the sake of figures. If people want to listen to this rubbish so be it.

Tonight’s big question. Joey Barton says women footballers are crap, discuss.

You might as well have a programme called:

A Taxi driver Explains:

"I ad that Nigel Farage in the back of my cab the other day, what a top bloke, bleeding foreigners".

Paying £17m for a 33 yo with no resale value shows just how desperate Sunderland are. I imagine Leverkusen couldn't believe their luck when Sunderland offered that much - no wonder they accepted.

I dont think it's a great deal but they didn't want to sell and ten hag was unhappy his left, the fact Sunderland can offer better terms than a team who won the bundesliga 2 years ago and were runners up last yeah just shows the pull and resources prem teams have.

I suspect talk of players not wanting to come to Palace because of the uncertain status regarding which Euro competition we end up in is a bit of a red herring. If the club is going to have a serious attempt at either competition then Glasner will presumably pick his strongest team, which as it stands is the one that won the FA cup there or thereabouts. Any transfers in will be back up to that first 11, I doubt we have the finance available to supplant those players anyway. We tend to spend low in the hope that the player comes good, we can all name the duffers and those that came good. It usually takes a player a season to get fully into his stride, I remember Drogba at Chelsea, so I'm expecting Eddie Nketiah to have a sizzling season....

Drogba scored 16 goals in his first season at Chelsea.

SP himself said it makes no difference they have plans for years in place and even mentioned DF who as we know has left and did so before we had even won the FA Cup.

Yep £17m for 33 year old even with his experience doesn’t look a good deal
Whilst I obviously get the reservations, he's a player with serious pedigree (400 PL/Bundesliga appearances, 137 international caps) who significantly improves their chances of staying up.

Not every signing can be about re-sale value or financial prudency - sometimes you just need to improve the squad, particularly if you've jumped up a division.

I think the thing with Steve is that he’s reluctant to overpay for players coming in or undersell those who leave.

He managed to sell Bolassie for nearly £30m and AWB for around £50m extracting full value for those sales.
He renegotiated the Olise release clause to £50m from the £35m he was available for ( not full value, but at least avoiding Olise going for a comparative pittance) and we still got another season out of him.

In general terms this approach has served us well with far more hits than misses even if we may have missed out on a few along the way through refusing to budge.

In thinking about this stubborn streak in him I’m sure he’s looking at the big picture rather than Glasner’s inevitable short term view dictated by the remaining one year on his contract.

What does this say about the current situation?
I don’t think Steve would would want Guehi to leave on a free.
Thus it’s probably a question of renegotiating a release clause and extension a la Olise , or getting the best possible deal for him which will probably only be realised at the end of the window ( who blinks first).
Eze has two years on his contract giving the club a stronger position and I could see Parish playing hardball on this .

Of course the above is not helpful to Glasner in terms of early purchases but I don’t see Steve being deflected from the path that has generally served him well over more than ten years for the sake of a keeping a short term manager happy, no matter how good he is.

The premier league is now about legs and energy. Very few can cut it in the PL once those go. Does he still have it ???
