Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

I agree, That and a big pay packet must be the biggest draw. Let's be realistic, it is likely to be a one-off in Europe, particularly if we get into the Europa, and players considering coming here probably realize that
If thats a players attitude, we wont be signing them. Coming here for the money and they don't think they can improve the team, aren't character traits that are appealing.

You’re spot on with this part, and I think most of us including myself except this, we know what we are and where we’re at.
Which is why we’ll never throw money at it and ‘have a real go’ because SP is still always looking over his shoulder at the trap door rather than looking up the table. Understandably for a club our size

For me the reward outweighs the risk this season, you can see when clubs are sleep walking towards relegation, Southampton, Leicester, stoke, Swansea all in recent years. There's been a couple of seasons where clubs have been too good to go down, Newcastle and West ham, but you can generally tell most season by how clubs are run and their current squads. Especially with the gulf between the prem and championship now, our chances of relegation this season are pretty slim.

You would think so with our current team and with the recent efforts of teams coming up. But for a club like us it’s dangerous to be over confident, we could still lose a couple of our best players and not do such a good job of replacing them like we did last summer and we all know once we get 3 or 4 injuries it’s a struggle for us. Like you say, we need to spend and I’d love to see us throw some money at it and have a go as you say, but being realistic it’s not going to happen

3 multi billionaire owners and we appear to be shopping at Aldi this season. There has to be something wrong with that.
if we had them 15 years ago they could spend to there hearts content , but we cant now due to fair play rules , and we got our current team from Aldi's , so cant see the issue

I think we will spend, but we're not going to go crazy.

I suspect he start of the market is very difficult to do business in, players wanting to hold off to gauge activity etc.

The window always hots up in the last couple of weeks. And I expect we'll do some good business.

Not ideal, but we'll put out a strong team vs Liverpool. And so not desperate need for new players to hit the ground running.

I keep saying it, but many of our peers are weaker than last season, so are up against it a bit to sign. We just need to add a bit of depth and quality.

We can't just spend their money because those are the rules.

I thought everyone would know this by now.

A generation reared on Football Manager. Hate to break it to you, kids, but running a football club and handling transfers is a little bit more complicated than just sitting at your laptop.

Villa, Fulham, forest, Brentford, Bournemouth, brighton have done okay the last few years, wolves look like they've decided to sleepwalk towards relegation but a couple of years ago showed real intent, Everton and West ham always spend loads but laughably get it terribly wrong, tho they still show intent. People ain't moaning for the sake of it, we're consistently the lowest spending club in the summer and usually spend a bit in January when most clubs dont need to and we hit panic station to get us out of trouble. I don't think anyone thinks it's as easy as football manager but we do seem to have poor transfer windows every summer.

We dont have to spend their money, we're about 100 million away from failing FFP and are 8th in the league I think. I'm pretty sure brighton are top with something like 320 million, as much as I dislike them, you've got to give it to them, they're probably the best run club in the country.

I'm sure we will spend some money when it is deemed appropriate.

Yawn, of course we all know, but we don’t have to like it do we.
Bigger yawn.

Well why say it then when you know it is erroneous?

You don't need to respond.

Every Summer?
I don't recall the Summer of 21 being bad - Olise, Guehi, Andersen & Gallagher on loan (yes and Edouard but he's had his moments)

Also, whilst the timing left a lot to be desired, last Summer's players brought in were ok - Lacroix, Sarr, Kamada, (and the unfortunate Riad), and on loan, Chalobah and Turner

Furthermore re our so-called panic buying in January, our January 24 window was brilliant seeing Wharton and Munoz come in.

Turning to the clubs you see as having done OK,

Currently:
  • Villa are now in financial straits over-stretching themselves to get into the Champions League again last season
  • Fulham's spend so far this summer is even less than ours
  • Forest have basically had to sell to buy
  • Brentford and Bournemouth have both been weakened by sales of key players. ARe what they've brought in enough to balance their player losses - only time will tell, but probably not in the immediate future.
As for Brighton - it irks us all that they are so well-organized but at least we did the double over them last season.

Having said all that, I do feel disappointed that we haven't brought our targets in earlier, especially after we got off to a good start with our covers for keeper and LWB.

Ultimately, though, I'll judge this window when it's all over.

That's one summer out of 12, Lacroix and Sarr were great signings but they replaced Olise and Andersen so again our squad wasn't actually improved.

Wharton and Munoz, again both great signings but kind of proves my point, imagine we signed them in the summer and replaced Hodgson that summer, how much better would our season have been ?

Villa, I dont think their fans particularly care about their financial situation after 2 great seasons and a memorable champions league campaign. Haven't they just sold their womans team to themselves for 250 mill ? So there's ways for owners to spend if they really want to, not that I expect that from our owners. Forest the same, I'd think their fans are satisfied after last season.

Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth, who knows where they'll be, no one can predict the future but it's not about predicting the future, it's about current ambitions.

Let's just use Liverpool for an example, they've spent a huge amount of money, Salahs legs could go, their new signings might not adapt and they could finish the season 3rd or 4th but this summer, they've basically said, we're the biggest and best club in England and we will remain that way, it's a massive statement of intent.

Wow - rarely have I read so much rubbish in one post.

1. Replacing Olise and Andersen. Olise is one of the most, perhaps the most gifted player I've seen in a Palace shirt. Replacing him like for like or better was never going to happen. Although Sarr scored 2 and assisted for Eze's goal in the cup semi final to cap a decent season. You don't think Lacroix is an upgrade on Andersen ? Especially given his age and cost ? Incredible.

2. Wharton and Munoz. Are you critising the club for not signing them sooner ? If that's the case then I don't think you have a clue on how football works. Were those players available then ? Had Palace scouted them sufficiently at that point to sign them ?? Hodgson's re-appointment was a mistake in hindsight - but again, who knows which potential managers were available at the time.

3. The Villa fans I spoke to after the semi final thought their team were a group of underachievers. They've not actually won anything - which I think you will find is what fans care about more than a few great games in Europe which amounted to nothing. And what point are you trying to make re selling the womans team ? Are you suggesting we are missing out somehow in that respect ??

4. Fulham, Brentford and Bournemouth. Fulham have so far signed one player. The other two may well turn out to be weaker after the sales and purchases.

5. I can't for the life of me think why anybody would use Liverpool as an example or comparison to Palace. Seriously ??

Jeez....again

There's so much rubbish in this post I actually cant be bothered to reply, the fact you think villa reaching the semis of the champions league, underachieved just shows how clueless you are, where did i compare us to Liverpool ? Where did i say we should sell our women's team ? Keep blindly defending the club, I'll listen to someone who actually has a clue, like Glasner, who clearly isn't happy with our buiseness this window.
