Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

The premier league is now about legs and energy. Very few can cut it in the PL once those go. Does he still have it ???
He's only 32!

He's played 100 games over the last 2 seasons for one of the most overachieving clubs in Europe - nothing to suggest his legs have gone.

Being a mid table team in the richest league in the world is enough, there's no way a player is picking PAOK or Besiktas over us because they get in the europa every year.
I agree, That and a big pay packet must be the biggest draw. Let's be realistic, it is likely to be a one-off in Europe, particularly if we get into the Europa, and players considering coming here probably realize that

Confirmation of the Derry news as he signs with Chelsea
"Derry is the third highly-rated academy player to leave Palace in quick succession, with 17-year-old striker Samuel Lusale departing for Manchester United in September, while Under-15s midfielder Reggie Watson moved to Chelsea last summer."

It will be interesting to see what compensation we get. It would have helped if he had played for the first team. We may well be reaching the same situation with Mustapha, whose contract needs renewing. It is a bit of a worrying trend

In other news, Holding has left. I'm guessing we just paid off his contract with, presumably, no-one, at a place he wanted to go, interested in him

I thought he’d gone to Colorado Rapids….the lucky buggers🤣

With the amount of European places available I don't see why we couldn't at least compete for them.

In some ways they should change the compo rule for this because how can you judge if a player becomes a star or not lets say these become top class prem players the compo we receive would be peanuts still over what they really are worth.

The other thing is if these people are so good why are palace not using them.

It's a big ask even if the PL gets five teams in the Champions League. Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Chelsea are nailed on top 8 and it would be very surprising if Villa, Spurs, Newcastle and Brighton also did not finish above us, unless we make some superb out-of-the blue signings, given the extra games we are, hopefully, playing. Even a badly run club like United have only finished outside the top 8 once in a blue moon

I certainly do not envisage Tottenham and Man Utd finishing the season below us as they did last campaign.

Tells you how much money is now involved at under 18 level with the biggest clubs. Not good for football if kids are chasing the money

We could if we spent some money, sick of hearing about long term plan, what long term plan ? we will never ever be a big club, we will never consistently compete for europe, we won't even consistently finish in the top half, no matter how well run we are, what a club our size can do is build a competitive squad over a couple of seasons, then have a real good go, before the big boys take our best players, we have a great spine, great manager, back him and let's have a real go this season.

I empathise. We'll never know what we might have achieved if Olise would have been here last season. We didn't do too bad, but as the club is what it is, our best players will be approached. So it's now or never with this current set, good manager, good first 11, who knows how long it will last?

There's not even a big financial risk, anything can happen but I doubt very much this group of players and manager will see us relegated, im fairly confident we will be fine, we could spend 80 million this summer and sell wharton next year, by then there's a good chance he's starting for England at the world cup, if that's the case thats atleast 80 million just for him, he's not here longterm anyway, we already have some great assets at the club.

It's a fair point.

Leicester managed to slip under the radar and won the Premier League not so long ago.
That team was immediately picked apart with the departures of Kante, Mahrez and Drinkwater.
Needless to say their team fell away the following season.
Clubs like Leicester, and dare I say Palace, don't get many chances to hit the big time.
The system is designed to prevent it.

That season Ranieri was relieved of his duties with Leicester 17th after 25 games.
Craig Shakespeare was appointed Caretaker Manager and Leicester finished in 12th place.

You’re spot on with this part, and I think most of us including myself except this, we know what we are and where we’re at.
Which is why we’ll never throw money at it and ‘have a real go’ because SP is still always looking over his shoulder at the trap door rather than looking up the table. Understandably for a club our size
