Franca injured

He is looking to be a terrible buy, compared to proven, fit players - remember he came with a bad back and is doing a good imitation of Ferguson and Wickham - compare his money with Wharton and Olise, we were sold a bill of goods. Having said that, he showed flashes of quality when he came on as sub, but it is a real problem at his age if he can't handle the physicality. Way better young, proven players in the Championship we could have picked up for the same money or less.
Yes but everyone loves a Brazillian 😉

Glasner seemed to indicate we'd be unlikely to see him for the remainder of this calendar year.
Taking into account that he was injured during the bulk of last season, and has also had no preseason, I'd be surprised if we see much of him before the end of January.
It seems to make sense for current planning not to count on him contributing over at least the next 4 months or so.
We may also have to consider making a further addition in January and/or recalling JRS.

Yet another totally made of glass player. Our pre-signature medicals must be little more than “what’s your favourite colour?”, “how many times have you had covid?” and “where are you going on holiday?”, because they certainly haven’t managed to work out that the guy can’t walk to the end of the road without getting injured.

We buy too many players like this and in this case, at that purchase price, it’s currently proving to be a big waste of money.

It's easy to be pessimistic with this latest injury (fair enough even) but I'm refusing to give up on him. Predicting this will be his last major injury for a while and he will get increasing game time from september onwards - and even do well this season overall.
Dying on this hill, except the timeline has changed to January onwards.

I'll be surprised if he ever plays for us again. A total waste of money.

Yep as others have said, another Nathan Ferguson but WAY MORE EXPENSIVE

Even at the time it was a very weird purchase. A young kid who had only played a few games, commentators said he had promise but he was not being touted as a wonder-kid. An extremely high-price (especially for us) coming to a team where probably no-one spoke his language and he arrived injured

Sometimes Dougie gets an idea in his head and just won't let it go. Nketiah and Sarr are more examples where he has finally got his man but not clear they are good enough to be playing outside of their normal positions

I guess I can count myself lucky that one of the only two games I have seen live in over 30 years was the Burnley one. I just hope that isn't the highlight of Franca's career with Palace

As has been said Franca was signed on a long contract so there’s plenty of time for him to come good. You would think young players would be more robust than the older ones but as Wharton is showing they often have problems until they’re a little older.
As regards being a waste of money I suspect he will turn out to be a more cost effective signing than Holding!

I had a feeling that the (unchanging) title of the thread would come back to haunt us.

I doubt he is costing more than Ferguson. Do you really think that clubs pay vast amount of money on players and not have them insured to cover any loss through injuries. We are nowhere near the worst at having crocked players.
