Franca injured

Ah football manager. If only we’d signed Stefan Selakovic, Agbar Barsom and Frederick Risp back in 2001 we’d have been world beaters. Well according to Championship Manager at the time

lol

Football Manager for many years is data based of real scouts and the tools the clubs use.

Hadn't seen that. If true, that could be the last bit of hope extinguishing on him. Even with the most careful handling he can't complete a fortnight of training before a multi-month layoff. It's a pattern only before seen with Nathan Ferguson. How we've managed to sign two boys with such fragile bodies is beyond me. Unfortunately there's years left on this contract.

I feel sorry for the player, but it does make future planning very difficult.

Franca will have been barely available for the two seasons he's been with us if he's now out until spring.

I haven't got the stats to hand, but from memory I can't recall any player who had 2 consecutive seasons out injured (to all intents and purposes), and made a successful career.

I think we have to plan without him, and if he does manage to come back and make a positive impact, then treat it as an unexpected bonus.

Perhaps this sounds harsh as he's still very young, but his availability clearly cant be relied upon.

It’s not harsh. Unfortunately it’s realistic. We clearly can’t plan for the poor guy to be fit. As you say got to feel sorry for him. Young person in a new country and with a body letting him down. Must be quite an impact on his mental health.

Question? Do the club have insurance for this sort of thing? When a player like Franca and ferguson can’t get fit I assume there is some sort of cover.

This is more bad judgement than bad luck - he was injured when we got him. If he still has years left on his contract we might as well give up till next season and hope the rest will be a cure - as soon as he gets active he breaks down. We're getting Esse in to cover Eze so there's no point in being urgent. Someone else said we should have insurance cover or maybe the option to terminate his contract. Great shame cos I thought he had genuine potential and his game was really suited to being wide in a front three.

Like I said a few weeks back, this guy will never play for us again. I'm increasingly confident about that.

Franca looked potentially the real deal when he got some minutes, however, the stats are so damming for someone in his age category, and his body will never be able to handle the rigours and training required to compete consistently at the level required for top pro sports. Similar to Nathan, great talent, but unable to compete physically. Terrible shame and our medical staff should be a lot better at spotting these issues. It reminds me of the top ballet schools in the world assessing kids (even before puberty), they generally call it right, because the physios can spot the potential issues ahead of time. Football is sometimes not so sophisticated as it thinks it is.

I saw him play against Everton in a cup game on a night of terrible weather, nothing special.

Same. We're a football club, and he doesn't play football. Not a good match.

The sooner we can get rid of him, the better. I can't take another 2-3 years of this, like we did with Ferguson, before finally acknowledging reality.
