Franca injured

Franca looked potentially the real deal when he got some minutes, however, the stats are so damming for someone in his age category, and his body will never be able to handle the rigours and training required to compete consistently at the level required for top pro sports. Similar to Nathan, great talent, but unable to compete physically. Terrible shame and our medical staff should be a lot better at spotting these issues. It reminds me of the top ballet schools in the world assessing kids (even before puberty), they generally call it right, because the physios can spot the potential issues ahead of time. Football is sometimes not so sophisticated as it thinks it is.
Surely when a club are interested in a player it does the appropriate due diligence checks, especially regarding physical health issues? In the case of Franca, Ferguson, and Holding the club must have known they were carrying injuries, and yet still carried on with their purchases. I think these three were acquired during Hodgson's tenure, and if I'm not mistaken there is a different medical team in place today. It was often said that the players looked unfit. Looks like the club learnt a lesson along the way.

I havnt had faith in our medical team for a long time, and that means before any of the Ferguson and Franca scenarios.

There was always something odd about this signing anyway, if I recall correctly he only played something like seven pro games in Brazil?

It's nothing to do with the medical team.

Every club has a standard medical check and if problems are highlighted it up to the club if they want to sign still (Palace sign these crocks hoping they will come good or can make money later on)

Not sure even Palace would pay £20 odd million on a crock, hoping he will come good. I suspect there is more to this. One rumour is that he is homesick but can’t believe that, as he has a partner and young baby here

Question? Do the club have insurance for this sort of thing? When a player like Franca and ferguson can’t get fit I assume there is some sort of cover.
The club will have insurance cover however it will almost certainly exclude existing injuries. So if a player fails their medical as existing problems exist then these will be excluded. Furgs transfer fell through because of his medical and club then got him on free transfer (with tribunal payment due to age). I suspect insurance cover for him excluded that existing injury. He may however have a case for damages against West Brom as they played him with injuries that they should have known about effectively ending his career. Franca did not fail medical but had slight strain problems if I remember correctly. He will probably have had some insurance cover. It is also possible that club self insures upto a set figure thus reducing premiums

There are fast planes. It’s not like Brazil is 4 weeks in a boat. Woos needs to grow up and grow a pair.

As per Glasner's comment today there is no major set back, just a minor issue as he increases his workload that the club is managing.

No need to panic. Lots of young players have injuries whilst they are still growing. I remember Steve Gerrard was constantly injured in his early days and went on to play c700 games for Liverpool and 100 odd for England.

Also positive noises re Wharton. Feb mentioned so that's really encouraging

Haha, no major set back however two seasons of continuous minor set backs. You have far more confidence than me that he is going to turn into a regular player. Some players are resilient, others not. He may be another Ferguson but let’s hope not.

Ah I missed that or maybe it's not included on the clip on Palace TV...but that sounds mildly positive.

Just seen the update in the Standard. Definitely sounds more positive... though we have heard similar things before. I hope it works out for him as he could be another exciting player to watch.

Seems he's back in the EPL Injury Table, pelvic/hip, est back 10th Feb, 75% chance. Perhaps he got knocked over by Holding in his rush to get to Sheffield.
Is this kid made of paper. I wouldn’t let him out to train if it’s windy in case he breaks in the breeze. Hope I’m wrong but I don’t see him ever being strong enough for football in England let alone premier league.

That’s probably just an assumption as the 10th of February is this Saturday. There certainly hasn’t been any update from the club on this.

They are probably saying 75% because he wasn’t on the bench for the United game. There seems to be mumours that he will be in the under 21 squad for a few weeks.

Which is probably where he should be until fully match fit. If he cannot get through 3 or 4 u21 matches without breaking down then not a chance he will be able to withstand full speed PL.

He was never going to play against Manure given what Ollie said about managing his minutes being easier for the under 21s. The original plan was for him to be on the bench making up the numbers and giving him a boost after a tough year. However when Eze declared fit that changed and there was no space for Franca. If he gets a game or two towards the end of the season that’s a bonus .

It's Monday. 1st team away to Donny in the cup & U21's away to Stoke.

Not sure even fully fit he would make the first team anyway as things are. Maybe bench warming. So makes good sense going him an extended run in the U21's. Will be interesting to see if he can build himself up at that level.
Have to say this is really bad news all round.
Sounds like it's an ongoing issue. But at least they are only suggesting a week.
