Crystal Palace v Fulham match thread

‘Every single bird in the world will find shelter during a storm, apart from the Eagle 🦅 which will always fly above it.’

I am not sure this is ornithologically correct - in fact, I think it’s totally wrong.
I think they can but have no idea why they'd want to. If it's a big storm they'll be flapping about for hours which seems like a lot of work.

People won't accept that Lacroix is a big downgrade on Andersen so they'll delude themselves into thinking he was "amazing today except for the goals." He was absolutely terrible
Someone had to say it. He was awful today, and apart from a strong performance against Spurs, he has been average at best.

He hasnt had the best start, but Tom Soares was worse and Dowie played him every week.

Soares (who wasn't an established international) could manage to find a team mate with a pass from 10 yards and didn't keep getting on the wrong side of his opponents thus letting them turn and get away from him easily.

He is not a big downgrade on Andersen, he has been very good the last few games
. Didn’t play well today but who did?
Are you really a Palace fan? I’m not totally convinced

That is very reasonable for today but not the whole season. We had many of those players available in other games and did no better.

The fact is we have 7 points from ten games. Keep that going and we will end up with 27 points and be relegated. We will always suffer injuries and suspensions. Hopefully not at the scale of today but some. We have to find a way of making it work and getting more points. If that means we need to change manager then so be it. It’s not all OG’s fault at all but we have to change something and unfortunately the manager is the obvious thing we can change right now.

Well, we were three games unbeaten before today and playing better. If we can get a run of games with Doucoure, Wharton, Eze, Sarr/Nketiah and Mateta on the pitch together I think we'll beat teams.

Also let's not forget that as bad as we've been, we're not in the relegation zone yet. There's still three teams that have been even worse and I don't think it will take a huge total to stay up this season.

We are crying out for a formation change. Everyone and their nan knows this.

Hard to beat 1-0 wins s*** football and then we can go back to 3 at the back after some results.

We all know how this ends. Moyes in January till the end of the season. New progressive manager for 25/26, last minute signings, crap start then dyche in 2026.....rince and bloody repeat. Actually kinda sick of it at this point.

You can’t judge the team based on the current injury list, we will come good once we have a coherent midfield and forward line. I’m not panicking at all, we are just not having much luck at the moment.

In the final analysis the defeat was predictable given our injury situation.I very much suspect that the vast majority of our supporters were not expecting us to gain any points.

Some less than impressive performances by Kamada and Sarr and I doubt that Nketiah would have made much difference.Question marks about our recruitment in pre-season and my views about some of the signings have been well documented on HOL and outside this cherished site.

Because we only play with two central midfielders they have to be at their absolute best to ensure we are not overrun. With Lerma, Hughes, Wharton out and Doucoure not fully fit it was always going to be an issue.

I do not understand why we couldn’t revert to a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 yesterday and get a grip of the midfield so that Iwobi and Smith Rowe didn’t have acres of space to run into.

OG does seem to be pretty stubborn with his starting setup and narrowly losing games due to having 5 defenders is no consolation whatsoever.

It's a fair point and an issue that many on here highlighted before the game in relation to midfield.

It wasn't ideal having Guehi in central midfield yesterday (in the first half), but at least he was competitive and won a fair amount of the duels.

Glasner mentioned post match he felt it hadn't worked, so bizarrely played Kamada and Devenny as the central midfielders in the second half.
This allowed Fulham to run through us at will as we had no competitive edge in midfield whatsoever.
Fulham are a decent side , but we seemed only too happy to allow them to demonstrate it through giving them so much space.

How long do we wait to come good? Till Christmas? Easter? When we are playing in the Championship? We’ve had one good League performance all season. Yesterday was going to be difficult given the injury list but I worry that the attitude from OG down was almost accepting defeat, to Fulham. Not Man City, or Liverpool but Fulham, a team we should be at least competing with. We’ve had over a quarter of the season and fixtures get harder from here. We can’t just hope it gets better. Something needs to change

Where most PL games are won on fine margins it was always likely we'd lose when our entire midfield was missing. Having said that I did find some of OG's decisions to be odd. I said before the game Sarr needs to play on the right and the one place Kamada has looked ok is on the left of the front three, so why did they start the other way round? When Sarr went to the right he actually got a couple of decent crosses in. Second half he kept tinkering to the point where I lost track of where everyone was playing.

I had hoped after his goal against Villa Kamada might push on but he looks so far off what is required at this level in terms of the physical side of his game. I think my mum could push him off the ball he's so lightweight. He also takes forever to decide what to do. He has become a liability and thank God – as many have said – that the red card forces OG to drop him. Seems like a nice, humble guy, but I think most of us would be sweet and humble for £100k per week.

You must be living in fantasy world if you think that Parish can suddenly click his fingers, sack Glasner, get all the injured players fit again, find the ideal new manager, and watch the team climb up the table by Xmas.
What we have here is the culmination of poor managerial decisions, particularly at recruitment level, and it's not just this season either. Fact is we've been treading water for many a season and this season is no different. In other words, it's the same s***. I don't even see the first brick being laid for the super duper new stand. Ever feel like you've been cheated?

Probably a Fulham fan who joined to be 'controversial' and then post his snide comments on Twitter.

I don’t think that at all. I’m not expecting everything to suddenly be perfect. I completely agree about treading water as well. Unfortunately we can’t change that now. We have to start from where we are. I just think we have to change something. Sadly the only thing we can change is the manager. Do I think that will mean we get 20 points from the bext ten games. No I don’t. Do I think we might get more than 0.7 points a game? Yes

I must admit that what I saw out there concerned me.

That was poor, Fulham were good but not special and we struggled to match them in any department.

I know we were missing players but.....but, that was a relegation level performance.

Now I'm concerned because it's obvious that we are too reliant on too few players and the players Glasner directed us to invest heavily in aren't cutting it out there.

If I were Parish, after watching that, I'd be wanting to know from Glasner how things are going to change......Because that's a lot of money spent to be playing like a relegation side at home against a mid table team.

I think that is unfair on him. He had a rocky start and yesterday was a bad day at the office. Before that though he looked like he’d found his feet and was playing well. For me the issue isn’t the individual merits of Lacroix and Andersen. It’s that we broke up a settled defensive partnership in the most disruptive way possible.
