Crystal Palace v Fulham match thread

I wasn't sure why Devenny was subbed and not Kamada. Surely a young player like that would play the 90 pretty easily. And ultimately Kamada was sent off not long afterwards. If I'm going to criticise Glasner it's for this firstly. Surely he can see that.

Just to help you out on this one, the coach decided to withdraw him from the field of play so he could receive the deserved approbation and extolment his outing warranted and so he can carry it forward into the international break.

Further, I believe his proud parents were supporting within the Selhurst Park stadia today and such a gesture is rather commonplace in all levels of sport.

Not sure what to make of that. We oressed high for a long period but no goals and then struggled to control the breaks. Iwobi was a nightmare for us - unmarked often. We did not create many scoring opportunities.

Makes me laugh, we release Ayew but keep Schlupp who looks like he's been assisting at the pie stall.
Eduoard was always crap and lazy so no loss there.
But Nketiah and Sarr? These two are mediocre at best.
Yeah I agree Edouard was poor for us but if we are going to have attackers who contribute no goals and no assists over the first 10 games of the Premier League season I’d rather we held on to the one we had than spending £40m on new ones.

Positives from the game.

Devenney had a decent debut
Kamada Suspended
I feel it in my loins Glasner is about to have a hol esque flounce.
No manager could have got anything out of the players we had available today. We are so reliant on a few key players. Look at the Spurs match. Day and night from today. Given how injury prone they are I fear the whole season will be hoping there remain three worse teams.

A point would have been a decent result for the manager, as our transfer policies and squad depth gives little to work with, but the way we lost was shambolic!

Kamada went from useless to reckless and I only ever want to see him warming the bench. My take away was that we had no plan for the game, the starting set up was experimental and the players looked like they were making up as the game developed. We can't string three passes together, the midfield had no structure and there was no way we gave JP any decent through ball to run on to. Saar was another poor acquisition; the January window might define if we can put a competitive team out, otherwise it will be a real relegation battle we might loose.

As for the manager, the jury is still out in my mind.

Ever since we got promoted really, once we’ve got a few players out we’re buggered, it’s just so frustrating it’s always our best players that keep getting injured

OG was hamstrung by the squad today but I expect managers to have a plan. He had a whole week to come up with a formation and tactics to at least compete. We looked like a group who’d met in the car park half an hour before the game. We’ve had worse starting line ups than that in our time in the Premier League and looked much better.

I'm sorry but Henderson pretty much pulled out on committing on both of their goals. Could have been saved. f*** it. Football is not enjoyable to watch anymore, so bring on the Championship!

Agreed, but we mustn't execute any kind of lamentation towards the poor lad as he gives everything for the soccer club week in week out and will probably take some time to read your message during his time off next week.

Also please recall that his ability alone managed to convince our coach (O.GLASNER) to convey our previous goal-tender, S.A Johnstone, to Wolverhampton Wolves FC for 10 million dollars.

Finally today, there's no doubt we are all harmonious in saying that the former (Mr Johnstone) is overall a far better and established GT and some may remember that he was our recognised number one jersey player for several years.

N.B Wolves Wan FC scooped a two zero result today which further places the emphasis on how well we played at their soccer ground last Saturday (11/02/24)

Probably because we are so reliant on them they have to play every minute of every game. The more I look at it the decision to play Eze and Wharton in the Carabao Cup v Villa looks like a terrible decision.

I think today was the first time we looked structural a disaster from minute 1. Some of the positional changes did baffle me and there was no fluidity at all.

Who would have thought Glasner would be relying on Hughes to bail him out of a very bad situation. There were some solid performances, but also several that offered nothing. That will never win a game in the PL, even against Southampton.

Ok, I can accept and relate to some of your words here, but must remind you to read pages z1-3 of this particular zone of the forum, as you will be pleasantly surprised to see most of our fanatics today believed we were the better team by quite some way the first 30 minutes of the contest today at Selhurst.

But match zones 2 & 3 (30min-60) and (60min-90) probably overall were shaded by today's London opponents, Fulham Football Club.

Enchanted words G.O. Like you, I am going to remain positive too.

REMEMBER we have participated in 4 ardious full-length soccer matches since our alarm clock woke us up a fortnight ago, and bar a comforting perfectly good last-chance saloon winning score being unfastened by the British Video Assistant Referee, we would have tasted 3 victories in 4 which is easily construed as the form of EPL "leading 4"

For those Crystal PFC folk not following the virtues of Manchester CFC, you can rest easy over the next 12 hours or so feeling the warm solace they have been defeated 3 on the foxtrot. And yes, whilst many of us will feel sad at the current form of the 2024 EPL championship team, we can feel better knowing our form trumps that of our championship team.

Stay positive fellow Crystals, the future is very bright for us all and life is too short to worry about one defeat today, which truth told flattered them as a zero zero or one to one score card wouldn't have looked out of place either.

And finally, another positive from today was the performance of J Devenny who made his maiden appearance today and held his own.

Mr Devenny joined us from Scottish Highland soccer sides Airdrieonians Kilmarnock FC

Kind Regards everyone, keep the faith.
He must've been good if he was playing for two clubs.

Obviously there is little scope for positivity after that but I will mention a couple of things:

Devenny made his debut in difficult circumstances and I thought he did OK. He was by no means the worst of the bunch.

Munoz had a good game going forward and did offer some threat, particularly in the second half, unlike a number of team mates.

And we can, of course, look forward to the prospect of three games without Kamada.

Glasner is the manager to take a team forwards. If backed this could have happened or if he had time to really get the system in place properly.

However, as always we are pretty much at the point where a ‘Roy’ or ‘Pullis’ will be called for. They will come in, stop the rot and then we will be moaning at the dire football. s*** or bust.

I just don't understand how, Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford, villa, Forest, and Brighton have established and moved on to really thrive in the league and in 10 years we have gone nowhere.

Where do you even start after that. Had we lost by 4 or 5 there could be no complaints.
Kamada my goodness this is a car crash of a signing.
Mitchell had a terrible game. Nothing going forward and he was basically useless covering anything down his side.
Time is coming to roost for Parish and co. The moment I saw West Ham and Fulham splash out 100m in the summer, and we spent peanuts, the writing was already on the wall. We just aren't equipping any manager with the squad and quality that is required. By not doing this, we are always going to hover around the trapdoor. This could be the year we go unless major changes are made and the squad strengthened in January.
We could have bought Smith Rowe but we went for Nketiah. As has been alluded already we went cheap on Sarr and he's hardly shown much.
Missing out on Semenyo, Bowen, Gyokeres and others by lowballing and being gazumped, it's the same old from the board in the past 10 years.
However, at least we could rely on the players to put in a shift, to try for the fans. This was the most annoying thing about today, it just seemed we downed tools after conceding the first. The kids tried hard and Devenny was a positive.
Time to forget today and hope the board and manager have a serious think about what we do moving forward.

Roy Hodgson was criticized (correctly) for some of his very curious team selections when things were tricky, I think Glasner must come in for equal criticism. One thing they both appear to have in common is the lack of a Plan B.

Oh well. As my old Dad used to tell me. “Always try to live in the moment” except after great disappointment when you should not dwell.. but quickly move on…”

We know we have no real depth in the squad and today just reminds me how we rely on players like Wharton and Hughes in the middle of the pitch. Eze also adds flair, goals and terrorises the opposition. With them + Lerma back soon we’ll be a different proposition.

I’m not convinced with either Sarr or Nketiah. Both were panic buys and the last two turkeys on the shelf which we recklessly shoved in the basket before the shop closed on Christmas Eve. Id love them to prove me wrong.
