Crystal Palace v Fulham match thread

I agree we should change formation.

I’d like us to declutter and play players in their best positions.

Mitchell is best at Left-back and Eze (when fit again) should have free roaming role just behind Mateta in a 4-4-2 formation. Munoz is too good to be right back so should be right mid-field with Wharton and Hughes in the middle. I’m not sure who should go Left- midfield.

We need to sign a Right-back in January.

Right on, and may well be spending the next two weeks "inside" the zonal demotion places with Ipswich FC looking to pick up 3 points with an optimistic game scheduled

Just to echo my content uploaded during the soccer match of Tottenham FC versus Ipswich City FC earlier.

I am genuinely remorseful for yesterday suggesting that the IP's will be looking to secure their first 3 points of the current semester today with optimism considering their opponents this afternoon in the London stadium.

Sadly this is now the third time in a month I've been subsequently remorseful after previously also predicting one to nothing misadventures against the Notts FFC and Liverpool FC, albeit todays prediction was much taller odds.

But contrary to the Crystal PFC laced fanatical, Eagle Man's claims, I can categorically assure you that these predictions are merely based on my own studies and judgement and I do not harbour any type of druid owned orbuculum.

Kind Rgds.

Why are you having a pop at me & since when have I been a laced fanatic? You may hide behind you faux Americanism but I take offence to your assertions.

It would appear that Kamada was an influentual cog in the wheel, but this is a different wheel rolling on different terrain.
I'm pretty sure he was in charge of giving the ball away and should have been hooked off before the ref decided we'd had enough of him.

He has neither the pace nor physicality for this league with the current referring. Maybe before they changed it a couple of seasons ago but not now.

How long do we wait to come good? Till Christmas? Easter? When we are playing in the Championship? We’ve had one good League performance all season. Yesterday was going to be difficult given the injury list but I worry that the attitude from OG down was almost accepting defeat, to Fulham. Not Man City, or Liverpool but Fulham, a team we should be at least competing with. We’ve had over a quarter of the season and fixtures get harder from here. We can’t just hope it gets better. Something needs to change
Get 2 or 3 of our injured players out of the treatment room and a couple of wins and we will be back at it. I know it’s been a terrible start, but we can turn this around. You say “something needs to change” but what do you suggest?

I don’t think getting a couple of players back will make that much difference. We’ve looked bad in most of our games even when more players were fit. There is clearly a problem with the system, tactics and energy on the pitch.

What needs to change? Reluctantly I think the manager. We can’t keep persisting with his methods that just aren’t working.

Well it worked last season….

By the way. I sincerely hope I am completely wrong and you are right. I would love nothing more than to be on here in a few weeks time eating humble pie and apologising to OG as we rack up the points.
I’ve seen enough of Palace over 50 years to know when to press the panic button. I’m not anywhere as despondent with OG as I was with Roy when he was at the helm.

Dear Mr Eaglecoop

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my content upload following yesterdays disappointing soccer result at the Selhurst P soccer stadium.

Can I just wholeheartedly apologise for any anger or confusion my content has caused you, especially during a time of despair. It was insensitive of me, and dispute being the grand old age of 82 and from Cleveland OH, I have recently started to realise that perhaps my remaining years supporting Crystal PFC should be away from the HOLMESDALE FC Soccer Forum as I would not want to cause any distress to fellow fanatics especially knowing that with the inferior knowledge I personally harbour of the UK Soccer game, I probably do not deserve a place in your ranks and aware that I am potentially preventing a younger, more seasoned fanatic a place within this Soccer Club Forum.

Please let me have your thoughts and if my presence is causing unrest amid our Crystal Fanatics, I will sadly accept any recommendations to resign from this forum.

Kind Rgds

No worries. Stick around mate, all contributions are welcome I just find your comments a bit bizarre.

We are in a mess at the moment and it really doesn’t matter how you dress it up, we will not improve following our current path. With the decimated team we need a change of tactics to try and salvage something out of games until we get our top players back.

Why are you having a pop at me & since when have I been a laced fanatic? You may hide behind you faux Americanism but I take offence to your assertions.

Dear sir thanks for replying. I most certainly was not "having a pop" (yes I did need UK to US as to us American folk, it means you're having a soda or drink) at you in the slightest degree for several reasons, but I see why you feel I am.

First and senior to everything else I am about to express, my words were hugely complimentary to the particular user I was referring to as he is a rather decent person and I guess the first forum member who accepted my veteran years and Americanism or "Yankeeism" as he fondly called it. If he has a similar handle to your good self or I have got it slightly wrong, then I apologise profusely.

A laced fanatic is an expression again you may hear a vet use in certain parts of the US, especially when discussing a ball game. But a laced fanatic is most complementary and some would almost stand up if one entered your saloon before or after a game due to their personal and respected knowledge.

And to end my reasoning, prior to the soccer game on 10/21/24 between Crystal PFC versus Notts FFC, I predicted a marginal one to nothing loss for our mutual soccer team, which was the second prediction in succession I had gotten correct thus warranting a light hearted jovial upload from "Eagle Man" or something similar. So to conclude, after uploading content yesterday predicting IPSWICH CFC would see todays soccer match as an optimistic chance of gaining their maiden victory this term, my comment pointed towards me not having any type of crystal ball 🔮

Once again, I would like to sincerely apologise if my words upset you in anyway or left you disappointed. I can wholeheartedly say I would not wish to cause unrest to anyone especially a fellow supporter during this period of dismay or in fact any period at all.

I hope you do accept my apology and hope that we can potentially move on in time whenever you feel at ease to.

Additionally, in light of some earlier content I had actually since asked for my content to be moderated prior to upload in an attempt to quell any further hurtfulness or confusion.

I am sorry.

On a different planet in a different solar system judging by how bad he has been. As always I would love to be proved wrong. Look divenny, kid did so well. Look at Wharton, his first couple of games, you would think he was 28.

The only time I’ve seen such a change in a bad player was JPM. His turn around even before he started scoring was quite something to behold.

and that Gary is the problem.

OG did a great job last year, once the team got comfortable with his system. There were a few things that all aligned for him too - Olise came back from injury, Wharton got up to speed with the prem and improved his fitness to last 90 minutes and of course Mateta was on fire.

Now we have different personnel and some of the players are suffering from having played most of the summer.

Every manager needs to adapt - work out a formation that gets the best out of the players he has, that takes account of the opposition and things that happen within the game itself.

OG picks the same formation regardless of players available and opposition.

To play 3421 on Saturday with so many players missing and/or not in form was just plain stupid.
To play maybe 4 players out of position to fit into his formation was always asking for trouble.

I look at Brentford - they have a manager who sometimes plays different systems depending if they are at home or away. He tweaked their style when their talisman and leading scoring was banned, they work on set pieces a lot, and they have worked out that attacking from kick off can sometimes work (hence they have scored early in games frequently this season).

Unfortunately OG doesn't appear to be doing any of this - however, it worked last season!

Apologies if I am the last of numerous to say this. I was scanning the EPL injury table and noticed we were still languishing with 9 absences through injury and suspension including much of attack and the entire midfield.

Fulham have ONE - Sasa Lukic

Performance and outcome over the weekend unsurprising.

And it is not just depth. Man City and Arsenal would have struggled with that many absences from the same position.

Man City have lost their last 4 matches and , according to assorted pundits, these results are due to Rodri being injured.

Indeed, Man City have struggled hugely without Rhodri.

In Wharton we're missing, IMO, one of the best players in the league. Even when he's been on the pitch this season he's been playing thought pain.

We'll be a different team when he's back.
