Villa v CPFC Match Thread

does Hughes have any idea about the rules of Football ? he seems to hack fellas every week.

thank God for Henderson.
Hughes remembers the likes of Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter (bites yer legs), Chopper Harris, and the Wimbledon crazy gang to name a few. He has obviously toned things down a lot!
It's what the game is missing. Proper really hard challenges has been replaced with shirt pulling, regular fictitious head injuries and players trying to win academy awards for their rolling around antics.
Bring back the old stuff any day. Hughes would fit in perfectly.

Sarr and Mateta (MoM) are starting to build really well together. When Nketia comes back he will have to either start on the left or on the bench. Sarr and Mateta are starters for me all day long now.
Thought they were awesome today. And Devenny.
Eze will be on the left and Nketiah on the bench which is about right based on his performances so far

Played well today.

The pluses were we didn't lose, Devenney looks at home in the first team, Doucoure is close to a full game and Kamada is suspended for another two. A shame it's not ten.

It's a hard call between Hughes, Wharton and Doucoure. I guess we will go with Wharton and Doucoure, but we will miss Hughes.

Sarr scored but his finishing is still poor. He miskicked a sitter. Not good enough from a forward.

Eze will come back maybe next game, but I feel that he gives the ball away too much and slows things up. We know what he is capable of, but I'm not sure if I'd start him automatically.

I didn't manage to make viewing of today's soccer match, but it does make pleasurable reading seeing everyone overly positive and extremely happy rejoicing after the brilliant outcome at Aston VFC which was arguably our best outcome of the season 2024-2025 versus a group challenging for the EPL championship and one of the EPL's leading representatives in European Soccer both this season and historically, and are a soccer side that the majority of the EAGLES are hankering towards becoming one day.

Upon reviewing most of the other 11/23/24 EPL outcomes it also appears all of our direct bandits have succumbed today allowing us to move further away from the dreaded demotion zone, a place we shouldn't even be anywhere near which the abundance of quality within our Eagles nest.

Finally the outcome today should also breed confidence for the rapidly approaching CUP competition QUARTER FINAL which takes place against Arsenal soon and should we outmanoeuvre that contest leave us on the cusp of being an EPL representative ourselves during the 2025-2026 soccer season.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend on the back of this great day and remains safe from storm BERT which (like us) is also gathering pace.

I think Eze has to start. He’s our most creative player and the one most likely to make something happen. His form hasn’t been what he’s capable of. Some of that though is down to the fact teams had been able to double up on him because the rest of our attacking play was so poor. He was also having to drop deep to get the ball because we were a good 20 yards deeper as a team than we should have been. I saw a lot of him getting the ball looking up and seeing Kamada and Nketiah miles out of position so he had few options. With Sarr playing much better and Mateta back to being a dynamic striker I think Eze will look a lot better

He needs to.

A little confused by your opening statement, sir. E.Eze as far as my knowledge stretches didn't feature today as a substitute, unless of course you are referring to a future connotation, which I am
Half inclined to echo and agree with your suggesting.

Yes. I meant when he is back fit

Ah Mitchell's fault(again) eh? IMHO he was one of our better players today, tho, he needs competition to push him.

I really can’t agree. Mitchell was not one of our better players today. He tries his best but his best is just nowhere near good enough. He was beaten far too easily for much of the game and turned inside out by his opponent more than once.

But the real problem is him going forward and it is championship standard at best. Poor distribution, hopeless passes, lacking composure and giving the ball away far too often. No overlaps, not an attacking threat and his crossing is generally abysmal.

A quality left wingback is much needed.

As much as I have enjoyed watching Devenny play a couple of games, I’m not sure he is as good as Lerma.

Whilst Wharton, Eze and Kamada are out (Kamada hopefully for good) I would like to see Doucoure, Lerma and Hughes playing in a similar shape to how we played today. Hughes presses the ball well and breaks up play better than anyone else we have. Yes, he gets booked a lot but we need a player like him. The good thing about having Devenny is he looks comfortable in any of the midfield spots and the management now appear confident to utilise him whenever we need him.

If we stay in the PL, next season will be interesting as to how we set up in midfield.
