Villa v CPFC Match Thread

Before the match I'd have taken the point. And I still would. Although, to get two goals way from home and lead twice to then let them back in is disappointing. I'm starting to wonder when all three centre backs are going to have a good game at the same time? At least one of them has a dodgy game every game it seems. Chalobah's turn this week. Who's turn next week?

Disappointing, but we played well. Conceding so many corners was a poor sign, but throughout the match I was more confident in our side than theirs. A shame we lacked Eze. He would have twisted AV's defenders into pretzels – sorry, Americanism.

This was the problem with selling Andersen so late. All of our back three have played well individually at different times but we don’t convince as a unit. Lack a leader and organiser. Andersen was prone to some individual errors but he was the one calling the shots at the back. We don’t have anyone doing that now

Ah Mitchell's fault(again) eh? IMHO he was one of our better players today, tho, he needs competition to push him.
Today was not Mitchell's fault at all. To be precise it was nobody's fault. It was a good team effort that got us a point at a tough ground, and nearly three.
My issue is that Mitchell is not premier standard LWB. I thought he might have got there, but he clearly hasn't. He always seems to want to get rid of the ball. He doesn't like it and at this level you need to be able to work with the ball more.

The bar I'm in watching the game, there was myself, a Villa fan(we got on great) & 8 Man City fans(one I know, very well), they were cheering on Palace & loving it when we scored & the missed penalty & groaned when Villa equalised. Great afternoon.

But hopefully it may come. Lacroix and Guehi are starting to get better understanding together. See where it goes now Richards is back.

Starting to think about the game - we need to cut out the defensive errors. There are almost a couple every game.
Set pieces - both attacking and defending - why are they so poor?

Most calls Glasner has to be congratulated with today. However, thinking about it, the back three still hasn't worked. What I wonder is, could we be a bit more flexible here? I'm toying with the idea that when a team plays one up front a back three is a bit of a waste. Why not put one of the back three as an anchor man in defensive midfield and free up the midfield more. Then if a team starts to play more up front, revert to the back three. Sounds alright but I guess we have to accept this isn't going to change.

Substitutions: rubbish frankly and where did they go? Lerma did ok. But when Sarr went off I would have thought more like Agbinone should have come on. Mainly our subs are crap due to a crap squad, however. I guess we can't blame Ollie for that.

Devenney is our main positive, plus Sarr and Mateta began to click.

Brilliant defender but not a WB + I think teams have sussed out he cannot kick with his right foot

TBF Ithink he wanted to make sure of a point rather than the hung ho approach we have had in other games

No chance Im afraid. From what Ive seen. OG seems glued to his one and only formation. Sadly, it seems cast in stone.

Very happy with a point overall although we clearly could have won it. We're becoming a bogey side for Villa.

A point away there when we're still missing Eze and Wharton is terrific. The difference in the quality of our subs shows how well we did.

Although I'm thrilled for Devenny, I'm almost more pleased with Sarr. Well taken goal and could have had more but the fact he was getting in those positions is encouraging. I see him as our first choice RW now and hope he will crack on.

We have tough games coming up, Ipswich looks pivotal, but most results went for us today (other than Wolves) and I'm confident that by the new year we'll have had a couple of decent results.

Mateta was majestic today but we can't get Will Hughes out of the starting line up quick enough. I love him in lots of ways but he's an absolute liability.

A bit harsh on Hughes there. Was clumsy for their penalty but I think he’s been our best player this season
