The January 2025 Window

Looking like another disgraceful window.

I can def see the manager walking in the summer or as soon as an offer comes in from another club.

Time for a change of leadership at the club how a club can be in the Prem this many years and not advance plus still keep messing about in these transfer windows is shocking.

Building one stand for an extra 10 thousand people looks like all they care about at the minute great business isnt it polish a turd but spend 150m yeah great business.

Still some time left so lets see

Looks like we are prepared to play the rest of the season with just 3 centre backs…..no injury cover then.
I think the idea is that Chilwell can cover LWB and one of the back three. A bit like Clyne on the other side. Not ideal but didn’t look like any centre backs were available at the right price.

I think disgrace is a bit strong isn’t it? Our targets were one more attacking option and a LWB. That’s what we seem to have gone and got. Centre back depth looks a little thin given injuries but options weren’t there at sensible prices and rightly the club wasn’t going to pay a long way over the odds.

For me getting in an exciting young attacking player, another option in a key position and moving on a couple of players deemed surplus is a pretty good window.

I think disgrace was about right. We’re not resolving the LWB issue. We’re covering it for 4 months. In the meantime we’ve lost key players and not covered. In my view we should’ve permanently signed a LWB (Diouf if that’s our target) then got a loan centre back for cover. Or Tangana at Millwall is cheap and decent enough for cover. Also lost docoure. We are now weaker than when we entered the window which isn’t acceptable.

Think about money received last summer. Olise, Andersen and ayew. Spent about half of it. Other clubs are pulling away as they spend the money they receive and more yet still remain within rules and solvent. Need a change as otherwise we’re 12-15th forevermore unless we have a bad season then we’re down and it’s all been pointless.

Agreed. There wasn’t an obvious loan available at centre back and by all accounts they did attempt to sign someone but clubs play hardball in January. If you compare our window to others in the league we’ve done pretty well.
If we’re desperate for cover Sergio Ramos is a free agent. Makes Wardie look like a youngster but can still play a bit.

Which key players have we lost? From our starting eleven we only lost Chalobah. With Wharton back from injury I’d argue our first eleven options are stronger than a month ago. Squad depth at centre back is a concern I’ll grant you.

The January window isn’t generally the place to build your squad. It’s to cover in positions needed and get in maybe one player you want. That seems to be what we’ve done. The summer is when we should judge the club’s ambition or not.

Wasn't it about

50m for Olise
30m for Andersen
11m for Johnstone
5m for Ayew

so about 95m

30m for Nketiah
18m for Lacroix
15m for Sarr
15m for Riad
14m for Esse
Kamada on a 'free' (but they never are really)
Whatever we paid for Chalobah and Chilwell

so over 90m

and the year before we spent 70m on Henderson, Munoz, Wharton, Franca and didn't receive a transfer fee for anyone.

Where are you getting the idea that we haven't spent the money?

We've spent a lot more than half of it. We pulled in around £100m and spent about £92m. Utd have spent £244m, Spurs £165m, Ipswich £152m, West Ham £144m, Southampton £122m and they are all below us.

Over the last 5 years, only 10 clubs have a higher net spend than us

Not hard to guess who

Arsenal
Villa (by 3 million)
Chelsea
Liverpool
Man City
Man United
Newcastle
Forest
Tottenham
West Ham

The only two of them that haven't been in in and out of the Champions League are West Ham who have been playing in the Mickey Mouse cups to the final every year and have the taxpayer bankroll their stadium, and Forest who got a points deduction!

Fabrizio Romano confirms huge Tottenham £50m breakthrough while Crystal Palace confirm exit.

Got to admire clickbait writers. This "story" relates to Tel going to the Spuds and Holding leaving Palace.

Schluppy off to Celtic. Sky reporter in Glasgow said Celtic will benefit from his power and pace. I’m guessing he hasn’t seen him recently. Hoops do tend to make you look slimmer though. Anyway, thanks for the memories Schluppy and enjoy your time in Glasgow.

We had the best 2024 window. Wharton and Munoz for ~26million. Credit to DF for striking gold, when everyone else was hiding.

The 2025 was never going to be as fruitful. Esse is a good deal. I don't agree with Chillwell unless we have a deal to buy.

What a silly view. Glad our management have a few more brain cells.

If only we were playing football manager eh!

Good window for me, kept all key players, Chilwell good gamble, quality player, if he can stay fit, Esse exciting young talent, Holding and Schlupp some money saved, Clyne, Lerma and Mitchell cover for back 3, I think Glasner will be pleased that nobody left, it’s a better Squad now than before the transfer window

We really should have got a cb a couple of injuries and a suspension the back line could be Chilly, Ward, Clyne.
It didn't need to be the next England star, there must be loads across Europe that know the job.
Probably the easiest and cheapest slot to fill.

Spot on, JHB.
