The January 2025 Window

We can suggest all the players we like but, ultimately, who we get, if anyone, will very much depend on where we sit in the table come the New Year (when we should have played exactly half our league games and every team once). If we're still in the mire, can we really expect the quality of player we need wanting to come to SP?

My own view is that we won't see anyone in beyond a LWB unless we have to replace players sold in the window. We may well recall one or more loaned out players if it's felt we need more choice. The full squad come February could look like this:

Keepers: Henderson, Turner, Matthews

CDs: Guehi, Lacroix, Chalobah, Richards, Riad, Holding, Ward

RWB: Munoz, Clyne

LWB: Mitchell, NEW

Midfielders: Doucoure, Wharton, Lerma, Hughes (Ahamada? not getting any playing time in France)

Strikers: Mateta, Nketiah (Edouard?)

Other attackers: Eze, Sarr, Kamada, (Rak-Sakyi?)

Utility Players: Schlupp, Devenny (In his post-Villa Presser, Glasner said the lad can play in 4 positions).

Personally, I think we'll get both, but I think the forward will be a loan, with a view to Franca returning and not wanting to present an obstacle to Jes returning next season to compete for the first team.

I would likely us to sign the Millwall lad Romain Esse who looks a real handful. At left-wingback the options are less obvious although I think Alfie Doughty at Luton might fit OG's system well. It was rumoured in the summer Luton would accept £15 million which is not bad in today's market.

Semi serious/fantasy football, I'd love Alfie Doughty, Chris Rig and Rayan Cherki. But thats probably 60mil. I like the look of Romain Esse, but from a profile perspective he's not too dissimilar to JRS and Franca, so cant imagine that makes much sense.

I thought last year that Elijah Adebayo would be a great back up to JMP, but he's not setting the league alight this year.

Will be interesting to see what happens with JRS. I can only presume he was allowed to go out with the assumption that Franca would play a role in the squad. Can bring him back and give them Franca?!

Given our position, I suspect we'll have to lean into transfers that can make an immediate impact. (but then again last Jan we signed a kid form the championship and a guy from the Genk, and they did ok).

Sorry, I lost the wing in my follow-up post. I like the image of Dougie and his team arguing over semantics when deciding on transfers. Maybe that's what holds things up? Or maybe it explains how we signed Kamada.

I’d also like a LWB to supplement our attacking options down the left.

In terms of other options, it’s tricky as nobody can say with any certainty what impact Franca and JRS may eventually make.
A new young addition would potentially block their progress.
Perhaps a loan might be a solution, although I know many are averse to this system.

I think we will get an idea about loans once the window opens. We are maxed out so unless Turner or Chalaboah are sent back or signed permanently we wont be getting any.

Mind you it would be typical of Palace to keep both thus blocking that option and then signing one at the last minute.

Looks a bit like click bait to me. Are Juventus really going to get rid of a player they signed for €50m this summer. Also wages would be prohibitive for us. Apparently he earns something like £150k a week. I can’t see us forking out that (we didn’t for Andersen) or him taking a big wage cut.

The loan option would be the perfect way to merge in Franca and JRS.

Doughty was rumoured to be out of contract last summer and was heavily linked with a move after an impressive season.
In Sept he signed a new long term contract at Luton.
Surely if we fancied him we would have bought him in the summer
