The January 2025 Window

Does anybody have the feeling i have that Mateta and Guehi are both going to be sold in the Jan Window, if that did happen and we had 70m to spend who would you buy?

Gut says Guehi would prefer a move in the summer. Better time to do it with prep etc

Letting JPM go in Jan would be suicide.

From rumours that have been going around, Mateta has been agitating for a move all season. Not Guehi, but his contract runs out soon enough and he's not signing a new one - he will go likely at the end of the season. Still for a decent fee but not 50+ as there will only be a year on his contract.

and Franca!

But to be fair, have/should make at least 30/40m profit on Olise, Eze, Wharton, can afford the odd mistake. Franca seams a particularly bad one though
It’s a shame with Franca because there is talent there. But so many injuries so young in his career does not bode well at all.

It would be madness to sell these either of these 2 in January, yet alone both. We need a stable defence to get out/stay clear of trouble, and although not scoring much atm JPM is our best striker.

I can, however, see them leaving in the summer.

If they were to BOTH go in January we will appear on the assisted dying page.

Rumours are that Chelsea want Guehi back.

If true then I can see the proverbial player swap plus cash actually working for once.

Chalaboah is already here and has no future at Chelsea whilst I suspect that Guehi will jump at the chance of going back to his old club.

So if all parties want this to happen it should not be to difficult. We might then even get another loan off Chelsea as part of the deal?

Quite an interesting idea. If we could get the best deal it would be for them to agree to buy Guehi at the end of the season - we take Chalobah for say 25mil at the beginning of the transfer window and then loan us Chilwell maybe with an option to buy for say 20 mil at the end of the season. This, they'd pay very little for Guehi and we would possibly sort something else for up front as we'd have actually spent next to nothing in reality - whilst sorting (maybe) our left back issue, for this season at least. Sounds unlikely though as we probably haven't noticed we need a left back and someone else to improve the attacking midfield or forward line.
What would annoy me is if we buy a goalie as I believe Whitworth or Goodman, or both, will be ready for us next season. With goalies you tend to find that they're a bit like strikers who score goals at any level. A good, dare I say excellent in our case, goalie in League One is going to be a decent goalie full stop. The job isn't much easier at lower levels - arguably tougher.

But Chalobah is awful, mistake, after mistake, Richards, Lacroix and Riad if a three is played, Clyne and Lerma back up.

Wasn't he one of the Chelsea favourites? What I would question is whether he's a centre back or a midfielder. He's had the odd mistake and maybe only one good game but they all have been like that this season. Lacroix was pants in the first games. So was Guehi frankly.
There's also the question of who would be any better for the money? And what would be a possible deal for the club.
However, there's a distinct possibility that Chalobah won't want to come here permanently anyway. It would hardly be a surprise.

We need to sign the Arsenal set piece coach .
They've just scored their eighth goal of the season from a set piece, having got around 20 last season from this method.
Perhaps we could swap Nketiah for him.

My comment was tongue in cheek, but with a hint of truth.
To attack set pieces we have 3 aggressive centre halves and Lerma and Munoz who both have a decent leap on them.
We also have JPM who, although not great in the air, has the height and presence to be a disruptive influence.
We should be causing opposing teams more problems for set pieces.
Arsenal are masters at this.

Can't we just copy what they, and others, do and have done? There must be hundreds of dead ball routines out there we could use.

They've just scored two more from set pieces tonight.
Incredible efficiency which enables them to win from indifferent performances.
