Center Back from where?..... keep seeing folks on here saying we're not getting a CB and have failed the club etc etc... Half the clubs are looking for a good ball playing CB.. There are not many around that
a) are good enough for our system
b) are in our price range
c) are available to buy in Jan
d) are going to improve our team over the slim cover we have
e) are willing to come to Palace over other EPL clubs
It wasn't a great window as a permanent LWB and a CB would have been great but I'm happy with what we achieved with the restrictions we live with.

Agreed. Spuds were so desperate for a centre back that they offered £70 million for Guehi and ended up taking a player from Lens on loan who no one else was after and they’re obligated to buy for £21 million in the summer.

As much as we'd love to live in an ideal world. We dont.

We are practically safe, and there are only 14 league games left. Vey little point making a silly decision and spending a load of dosh for 14 games.

If we are lucky CR, ML & MG will play the next 14 games with no issues.

The most likely case is we'll need cover for a handful of games. Clyne/Lerma/Ward/Mitchell are more than good enough to cover for a few games.

If you analyse it purely on numbers its

Schlupp, Holding, Chalobah and effectively Riad out

Esse, Chilwell, in

On paper it looks like a poor window but in reality it will have little impact on our team.

And, fingers crossed, Wharton back and starting in a few games time.

Despite this, the media today suggests,
Barcelona are going to buy Munoz,
Manchester United are going to buy Mateta,
Chelsea / Spurs are going to buy Guehi.

Sadly there do not appear to be any takers for Edouard.

As I recall, we extended Edouard's contract to summer 2026 just before he went to Leicester. Hopefully that will have been on a vastly reduced wage, say £40k/week. Can't believe Leicester will renew, so we will have to dump him in the summer. Might get £4m less say £1m to cover £20k/wk from his new employer.

I had hoped Celtic might take him back after Kyogo left. Roger’s is clearly disappointed with the fact they didn’t sign a striker and had to take Schluppy as a last minute panic loan at left back. Can’t believe there wouldn’t have been a discussion about Edouard so the fact he’s staying speaks volumes. He was lazy in his last season at Celtic and they will have seen that nothing has changed in that regard. It’ll be difficult to move him on in the summer.

We might be lucky again and farm him out even to a third tier team for say 20K/wk. Will save us some of his hopefully reduced salary.

To be fair we will fill this board with speculation over who we will take from smaller clubs. Unless you are one of about 6 clubs in the world that’s just the way it is unfortunately.

Which key players have we lost? From our starting eleven we only lost Chalobah. With Wharton back from injury I’d argue our first eleven options are stronger than a month ago. Squad depth at centre back is a concern I’ll grant you.

The January window isn’t generally the place to build your squad. It’s to cover in positions needed and get in maybe one player you want. That seems to be what we’ve done. The summer is when we should judge the club’s ambition or not.

Agree. As fans we can sucked in thinking transfer windows are like football manager and you can just who you want. Glasner stated 2 signings at beginning of window and that’s what he got. Well run club financially and you never hear of us and Financial fair play issues
