The January 2025 Window

Could you imagine parish’s face if textor suggested that 😂

Once the Everton & Forest cases were concluded & the details published it was possible for pretty much anyone to see / or at least get a handle on, how the authorities were looking at the offences committed, the amount of overspend, any mitigating factors & the punishment handed down.

From that I would be surprised if quite a few clubs didn't take a look & see if they felt that playing the system & taking the punishment (because the level of punishment could now be predicted) that would give them a better overall outcome rather than playing within the FFP / PSR rules

so what it's only 1 game.

it's a marathon not a sprint.

back to transfers we seriously need to clear out dead wood and badly need other bodies in this transfer stuff is dragging on way too long I really can see the manager walking either when his contract up or before.
I think the summer will be key. There will be a big rebuilding job to be done with the squad.

We are going to need at least one centre half when Guehi goes. Ideally two as I don’t think Richards is really good enough and Riad is an unknown.

We will need another striker if Mateta goes. They don’t come cheap but clearly Nketiah isn’t up to being first choice and we can’t have him as the only one in the squad.

Ideally we need another player in midfield as well. Lerma and Doucoure work hard but their passing isn’t great and we are overly dependent on Wharton in that regard.

That is a very difficult job to do on our budget.

Can't argue with any of that. Especially the last line.

The way it was explained was that you need to show profit for that money to be added to your budget.

If edouard cost us £13m then you add the value on his contract which is apparently £4.68m for 4 years. Then his actual cost to the club is £31.72m

As someone else has mentioned the contract value goes down each year bring to total cost on the books down but the transfer fees remains.

This is why they are saying selling academy products is a better way to increase your transfer budget because you haven’t got a previous transfer fee to be deducted. Unless you can sell for a profit each time. Ayew and Anderson both went for profits as did olise. Edouard won’t go for a profit.

In my opinion it’s a silly rule to protect the big 6 from anyone coming in and taking their place. Newcastle and villa both have the money to spend but others don’t want them to be able to spend it. They already have the revenue and squads to make sure they can stay in European comps.

Until that rule goes no on but the big 6 will consistently play in Europe and for regular trophies.
All that said, the budget we’re currently working to includes a £13 million player with an annual cost of £4 million wages less what Leicester paid as a loan fee (reportedly £4 million) and this season’s wages. Sell Edouard tomorrow and we are better off by the summer we receive plus £4 million in annual wages. At the moment his costs are a millstone round our neck and have to be impacting our ability to pay that bit more for a transfer.
If we’ve offered £12 million for Diouf within our current budget and can’t afford to go higher, we should be able to increase that offer to the club and if need be to the player if Edouard is off the books and Diouf is the one we want.

Maybe, maybe not.

We still have a relatively young first 11.

If we lose Guehi it will be for big money, and DF has some time to identify a replacement. I agree about Richards and Riad.

JP is a slight concern, but I cant quite see where (at least in England he'll go). He's not good enough for the top couple, and Forest, Villa etc have a main man. I dont think he'll go.

Completely agree on CM. I'd be keen on Chris Rigg or Jobe (both Sunderland). But much depends I guess on how Wharton is.

Depends what JP wants I think. If he wants big wages and we won’t pay them then he will go to who will. I could see that being a club abroad, maybe Italy.

IMO I couldn't see why we wouldn't give him a wage inline with our top earners.

Yep Italy feals more likely than Spain, and not much money elsewhere

Yes if Nketiah is worth £80k a week and Edouard is worth £95k (so it is rumoured) the JPM must be worth £120k at least.

On the end of last season and current form - yes. However he was dross upto that point and even Edouard was better. I suspect we are waiting to see if last year's performance was a false dawn before we make an improved offer (remember Benteke he looked like real deal during contract negotiations)
