The January 2025 Window

Half way through window - which ends on 3rd February. Have got Esse, and a free loan space. Hoping for good news. Has anyone heard who is almost an Eagle (or potential (on loan)?
My read is that we're quite confident we will land Diouf from Prague - Glasner has consistently talked about two targets this window, in two different positions. I think Esse and Diouf are the two.

Not expecting too much more on top of that - potentially we look at a loan to replace Chalobah.

There is normally a merry go round towards the end of the window, that's how we ended up with Chalobah, so you never know, if something comes up in an area that makes sense I would hope we would be in position to take advantage, being that we have headroom in our finances.

If Atlanta do take Edouard for £12 million then that might relax the purse strings somewhat and we’ll get our LWB over the line and maybe even a bonus signing.

I don't think the purse strings need relaxing. The owners have recently put £35m or so into the club (for transfers and towards stand costs). I don't see us paying over the odds for a player. Once a club starts doing that every selling club will join the bandwagon the next time that club wants to buy a player.

Yes, I could see us bringing Jorell Quansah in on loan from Liverpool - they won't be able to recall him as there's no mid-season transfer window for them to do so, and we need more depth at CB.

By all accounts we paid a little over the odds, whatever that means, for Esse so we could get him in now rather than wait until the summer. I’m sure we have a transfer budget within which to work but almost certainly that didn’t include a January windfall from selling Edouard. Having an extra £12-15 million in the kitty will allow SP to stretch the budget a good bit further which may or may not include paying a little more to convince Slavia Prague to let him go if he’s the one Dougie and Ollie want.Given how long a LWB has been on the shopping list I don’t think that would be unreasonable.

He hasn't gone yet. Don't count chickens etc.

If we are in for him, I think its reasonable to play hardball and let it go to the wire.

We have Mitchel after all, so another week or so wont make any difference.

I just posted on the player thread that Perhaps Slavia are waiting on the result of the European game they are playing tomorrow. Another thought is we are the ones holding it up, we might be waiting to see if we can offload Schlupp or Eddie ?

He has his detractors but is still probably a better source than the vast majority of media these days. Here's a quote from Fabrizio Romano, make of it what you will:

“I think it's a possibility to bring in at least one more player. So Palace are still busy in the market, they want to back Glasner. Esse was not an easy one also, because Bournemouth tried to enter the race in the final days, and they were able still to close the deal and to get it done. Now I think they could do something else, I expect them to do at least one more signing. So for sure, they would be busy in the final days.”

Fingers crossed we see another face or two through the door.

We need that LWB please

I’d say let’s try to pick up one of the many Man U lads who for whatever reason is deemed surplus to requirements. They may thrive with us.

I appreciate it’s always the silly salary that frustrates move liquidity in these cases. Maybe a loan when United start to panic at the size of their wage bill with a day or two left. They can pay half.

Always liked Alfie Doughty and with Luton languishing towards the bottom of the Championship, maybe could get him for a fair price? Just a thought.

Alfie Doughty has only just returned from injury. He was unavailable for over 2 months and only returned a couple of days ago when he was introduced from the bench. He is no stranger to a Yellow card.
