Halfway through the window tomorrow. Are we going to miss out on a LWB again?
Do we need one? It's like we haven't noticed for years. Why change now?Halfway through the window tomorrow. Are we going to miss out on a LWB again?
Is that you Mr Parish .Do we need one? It's like we haven't noticed for years. Why change now?
I’ve been a fan for over 50 years, and you’d think I’d know better by now.
This time I really thought we’d deliver early signings that Glasner requested; that the groundwork would have been done in November and December so that January would be a mere rubber stamping exercise.
If potential signings hesitated in November and December, then we’d have moved on to other options.
There will be wise sages on here shaking their heads and saying ‘it’s a complicated business, transfers, in particularly the January window.’
I’m not denying that it’s complicated, but our bench options in the first half of the season have not been strong enough.
On occasions we’ve had 2 goalkeepers and/or 3 untried youngsters and/or 2 or 3 veterans past their sell by date.
It’s not good enough , and the need to strengthen has been evident since the early games of the season.
"After OG gets the sack"I think this is where the ‘Top Half/potentially even Europe’ talk looks delusional and the reality of staying above the relegation zone with minimal spend kicks in.
I don’t intend to be deliberately b!tchy or bitter here however I think any chance of advancing from where we’ve been for so long will not be a result of careful and ambitious action from the ownership, it would have to be sheer dumb luck. Maybe the manager after OG gets the sack will achieve that.
"After OG gets the sack"
Whatever you're smoking, I need some of it because it must be properly strong mate.
Brighton also announced a signing.Approaching Mid-January and only 6 PL clubs have acquired players in this 'Window' :
A.Villa, Bournemouth, Ipswich, Southampton, Tottenham & Wolves.
I forgot the Brighton signing of Diego Gomez from Inter Miami.Brighton also announced a signing.
Around 30% of Premier Clubs have signed players.
Are you implying that having not signed players, along with the majority of clubs, there is nothing unusual about our lack of activity?
Glasner couldn't have been clearer about his disappointment over the lateness of the summer arrivals which made a definite contribution to our poor start to the season.
He also said that for this window he was looking to have new players training with the squad prior to the Chelsea game earlier this month.
Just because other clubs haven't dipped their toe in the market so far doesn't mean it's right for us not to have done so.
We have fielded amongst the weakest benches of any team in the first half of the season (e.g the Fulham game) with little or no options for Glasner to change games.
It's not unreasonable for Glasner to be given the tools to do his job properly and in a timely manner.
I accept that deals can be complicated with many parties involved.I forgot the Brighton signing of Diego Gomez from Inter Milan.
Apropos the signing of players in this 'Window', I was merely demonstrating that we are not alone in not acquiring players in this 'Window'.
I can only re-iterate that transfer dealings can be fraught with difficulties due to labyrinthine complexities and as such can be protracted and often lead to despair and disappointment.Clubs can work assiduously on deals many hours a day with several parties involved and many factors in the equation, however getting a deal over the line might not be the result of their ardent endeavours.
We are certainly in need of new players in key positions and I hope they are acquired sooner rather than later.
I am unaware of any such policy.I accept that deals can be complicated with many parties involved.
However, the club knew that there was a need for strengthening not long into the season.
I cannot see why the groundwork could not be done in November and December so the signing becomes a formality in January.
If a player was unprepared to make a commitment in November/December, it would be clear that he wasn't 100% committed to joining the club.
My assessment may look simplistic, but the fact we rarely make early signings indicates that's it may be a club policy not to do so.
