Sentences too harsh!

Regarding shoplifting, Labour are going to introduce a new crime of assaulting a shop worker.

The £200 limit introduced by David Cameron is to be removed so all cases can be attended.

What I would like to see is the police concentrate on crimes like this that affect ordinary citizens and not political matters what people think is none of their business.

😎

The response questioned my understanding of Orwell and I am yet to see any detail of what I don't understand about him. Adshead is like some sort of witch-doctor spouting mumbo-jumbo, no wonder you are an admirer.
No-one chosen to present the Reith lectures is likely to spout “mumbo-jumbo “ so I think you either haven’t listened or are showing gross ignorance.

Dr Ashhead presents clearly and is easily understood. She uses accessible language which enables the non expert to comprehend the points she makes. Which resonate with me as I have a little personal experience of the subject and what she says rings very true.

Funny that because the terrorist aspect of every other attack is downplayed. This clearly wasn't terrorism - simple racism. No point saying it to you though as the judge has spoken.
I simply asked if it was too harsh.

Not if it could be compared to anything else, although I anticipated whataboutism.

Only in as much as he got longer for attempted murder than the average sentence for actual murder.
So was it too harsh as a consequence?

Or was the time he was given, because of his racism and Nazi beliefs, justified as a warning to others and to keep him out of society where he can do no harm? He has shown no remorse!

Yes, it was harsh. Too harsh is a matter of opinion.

Of course crimes are comparable. That's the whole system of precedence in common law. In line with that, sentences should be broadly similar - there is no such provision for making an example of particular people. I presume this particular case had added tariffs.

Only similar crimes can be compared.

Whether though the sentences should be similar depends not only on the crime itself but on considerations other than simply punishment. Keeping the public safe being one.

Sentencing remarks are here. Only 9 pages so not putting yourselves out reading it in full. He was sentenced for 3 separate charges, taking into account previous too. He even received some mitigation for mental health issues, which I know you lot hate being used as an excuse.

If you read this and still think the sentence was ‘harsh’ you probably need to have a bit of a word with yourself.

Life with a minimum 22 years for stabbing (attempted murder), had plenty of lesser previous, of an asylum seeker.

He said he was 'protesting about small boats'.

😎

nb this was on the telly, Sky News in full.

Carry on: no one was killed here. Whereas others get ten/eleven years for knife murders. That's the problem people have with it.
This guy's a fuckwit and a c***: but all the other fuckwit c**** are literally walking around stabbing all and sundry then getting out in a couple of years.
And it's of little relevance to anybody that it's an asylum seeker - do they need somehow more than a person who's born here? Why exactly? On what grounds does that work.
So we can safely say that for comparable crimes people get actually no where near these sentences.
I read a case recently where two men attacked another man - stabbing him in the lung. One got community service, the other 15 months. Which is a more comparable case than knife murders.

As in Manchester United F.C.?
It appears that stabbing someone in a drug dispute or while committing a robbery is a less serious crime than one which is politically motivated, however deranged that motivation may be.

Anyways Ive been telling her to stay away from Croydon for years now. Particularly west Croydon station......
