I can't be sure that it's politically motivated; the guy does not even seem to reach below average intelligence. Basically a simpleton. Easy to make an example of I guess. I doubt he had very good representation.As in Manchester United F.C.?
It appears that stabbing someone in a drug dispute or while committing a robbery is a less serious crime than one which is politically motivated, however deranged that motivation may be.
I don't actually care that he's banged up. If they hung him I wouldn't care about it, frankly. Not one bit.
Where I do care is this sudden "making an example" of people for political purposes. It clearly does not exist in common law but precedents are now being set. Consider you now get into a fight with a person of a different race; or God forbid some poor, definitely genuine, asylum seeker. They might attack you, yet if you hurt them - what precedent is now set?
