Sentences too harsh!

So mental health issues keep many out of prison but not this person. Why is that?

were the photo's he uploaded onto Facebook 'AI artificial' or genuine photo's ? and if the latter, what precedent does that now set ?
you cannot upload real photos from real life events in War or other politics ?

And where do we draw the line between Journalistic images, and other ? and will it now be ok for some Elites to upload their monster images ? but not for the simple Joe on the street to do so ?

the Ex-soldier above got jailed for anti-Islam writings. How many have been jailed for having a go at the Seventh Day Adventists ? the Hare Krishna's or lampooning the Westboro Baptist Church ?

Benn was as entitled to his opinions as you are to yours. That happens in a democracy! Which existed here when he expressed them. Which was when we were in the EU!

Strangely though other people are too and they achieve their aims by voting in representatives, who during our time as EU members delegated certain responsibilities to a central body.

So you don’t like the outcome and think it’s undemocratic! Your opinion is not shared by me. Back in 2016 more people were said to agree with you than me, though that was disputed at the time and was certainly untrue as negotiations proceeded. It’s even less true today.

“The European Union is based on the rule of law. This means that every action taken by the EU is founded on treaties that have been approved democratically by its members.”

Those words come directly from the EU’s own website.

You want a list of democratic countries where the people don’t elect the lawmakers? You compile it because I cannot! It cannot include any in the EU.

Anyone who thinks us leaving the EU has decreased costs and improved prosperity is deluded. Every time I visit a EU country now I am struck by the way everything seems better. The infrastructure is better. The people dressed better and seem healthier. The live a better lifestyle and appear happier. They are going forwards whilst we are going backwards.

Leaving was undoubtedly a huge mistake which is now regretted by most of us. There always will be a deluded minority who believe us being on our own is worth the pain. Hopefully we will see them put in their rightful place during my lifetime.
Coincidentally I was in London earlier in the year and I thought it looked quite prosperous. We stayed by Marble Arch and the area was doing quite well. Not just there either but Bond Street was also not too shabby so I can't imagine the rest of London is any different. Moreover almost everyone I saw on the streets was casually dressed and didn't seem to have a care in the world. In fact it was almost as though they were on holiday. Prices seemed a little high but it didn't stop those lucky locals from eating at nice restaurants or doing lots of shopping. My conclusion, based on my observation, is that London is doing quite nicely.

you didn't visit Thornton Heath then ?
Wasn't lucky enough to get there, no, but I can't imagine it's any different to Knightsbridge or Belgravia and probably has it's own version of the Burlington Arcade and lots of nice bistros and chichi little shops as well as Harrods type department stores.
I would add that there were none of the often discussed tube strikes either and I was there for three days so that's conclusive enough for me.

When I travel I don’t go to the high end areas. I use public transport to visit places and see all sides on the way. So I am perfectly capable of making a general observation which is that, on average, since Brexit the EU countries are making progress whilst we are regressing.

I would be interested how you define “ dress better” that is surely an opinion.
I very much doubt that the residents of places like Stockholm agree with your observations
Probably no different to yours. It’s of course just a general impression but cleaner, smarter and, on average, better quality. More M &S than Primart. It’s nothing quantifiable but simply an observation. People seem fitter, happier and have more purpose about them.

There will always be exceptions.

You should try the same with London.

Very noble of you WE to use public transport to visit non=high end areas when travelling but , a bit like Eric Morecambe playing the piano, you may have been using public transport, but not in the right places, if you think that most countries in Europe are better than here. If you sit on the top deck (not hidden away underground) and look out upon many areas across France, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Holland I don't think your rose tinted specs would work quite as well as you suggest.

And below is the latest IMF forecast for GDP growth for the G7. Doesn't look like Brexit-shackled UK is doing too badly against the free and unbridled Eurozone.

I am describing my own observations. Nothing more. The people generally appear happier and less stressed than we do. They also seem fitter and more health conscious.

That the effect of the double whammy of the pandemic and in particular Putin’s war has impacted everyone is undoubtedly true. It being more than a little ironic that the USA has suffered less than others but has seen bigger political consequences.
