Musk

Read this analysis of Musk’s involvement this morning which is also a dive into why the far right are so fixated on the grooming gang scandal.

I expect it to be totally rejected by many here but for me it’s self evidently accurate in many of its assertions.

The questions then are not whether this is true but what can be done about it?

How can Musk’s amplification of lies be curtailed and how can the far right’s conspiracy theories be corrected?

This is a really important issue which has been created by the dominance of social media in the way people get their information today.

We criticise China and the way it controls what its people can read and say but at least the spread of misinformation of the kind now coming from Musk cannot happen there.

Effective regulation has never been more urgently needed. The European nations need to find a way to jointly control this.

That's fine. How do you feel about your posts criticising Musk and Trump being censored?

They wouldn’t be.

Nor would any post just expressing an opinion.

It’s only demonstrable lies and misinformation from sources whose motivations are determined to be against the public interest that need to be effectively moderated.

The social media companies have attempted to do that but rather than improve the way they are doing it they are withdrawing from it. What results is a cess pit of lies.

If they refuse to do it then we must do it for them. By we I mean via the representatives we ask to do things for us.

You're very sure. Posts criticising anybody would be liable to the same censure. Unless, of course, you just want to ban those with a different opinion.

a society suffers gang-rapes around the time of having lost a War.

Nanjing, China 1937.
Eastern Germany in 1945....Josef Stalin's rape gangs.

Spanish Civil War, 1936.
The Yamnaya 6,000 years ago.

So what War did the UK lose ? was it a culture-war ? or an economic war ? or other ? the financial markets perhaps ?

We lost World War 2.

Fair and objective criticism is always welcome. It enables an opinion to be tested and verified.

What isn’t are the kind of things that Musk has been doing recently. They are recycled lies and conspiracy theories which are being spread for destructive purposes. There is clearly no intention to make a contribution to a reasoned debate which leads to better understanding and outcomes. They are full of hatred and bereft of love. There is no sense of any desire for justice. Just a desire for revenge.

Such activity, wherever it arises, needs to be moderated out of every social media platform.

Musk Derangement Syndrome?

What a surprise! Spiked defends Musk! Their political positions are hardly very far apart are they?

Musk as an individual is no more important than any of the far right apologists who post here.

His importance arises from his wealth and his willingness to use it to amplify opinions he approves of via the social media platform he has bought. He is using X as way to spread his personal propaganda in a way not available to any other individual.

Ought this to be allowed? Finding out the reach and the impact therefore makes the Home Office research entirely appropriate.

Good luck stopping him when he owns the platform and is by far the most followed poster on it with 210 m people.

You identify the problem.

How to stop him isn’t my area but if China can stop X being available then so can we, along with the rest of Europe.

That would, of course, be an extreme solution but his content is now supporting extreme positions so could become necessary.

We need our own alternative, properly moderated, if Musk continues in this way. We cannot influence what is acceptable in the USA, but we can control it here.

As ever the problem is in who decides what is and isn't an extreme position. Anyone attacking Trump would have to be pretty far out there to even raise an eyebrow.

So his posts on x are conspiracy theories which you are now using a conspiracy theory to try to disprove as you assume they are lies. Nice !
