You are confusing separate issues.

No one defends criminals or criminal activities. Everyone wants a society based on meritocracy.

What some want is that to be carried out without reference to any arbitrary considerations.

Those that don’t and are prejudiced against others because of their skin colour or ethnicity are racists:-

“a person who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalised."

Racism being at the root of aspects of far right ideology it is an unescapable part of the discussion around it.
