As you said teammates clearly trust him (and Wharton) and give him the ball in tight situations with players on his back.
For me, his biggest strength, (and this causes issues with fan perception) is his game intelligence. Fans see Hughes and Lerma tearing around, and that = better. But they dont see them getting pulled out of position and leaving big holes.
Watching Kamada, last night was a great lesson on CM tactics. Without the ball, he positioned himself to block the passing lane to the CF/no10. Always looking behind him to make sure that ball to split the midfield wasn't on. When on of the CMs started to move forward with the ball, he'd engage, (and Lacroix/MG would get closer to the CF/no10) but not fly into a tackle, basically get close enough to stop the progression. They would then be forced to pass sideways, and Kamada would drop back into position.
He's also clearly technically very good, rarely needs more than 2 touches. Weight of pass is pretty much spot on.
