Kamada will be an asset

That springs to mind the Connor Wickham 3 yard pass to Jordan Ayew when he scored that outrageous goal against West Ham a few years ago - you know the one !

I once got an assist in a game where I was injured with a groin pull but had to play because we had no subs. I was utterly pointless apart from being someone they had to perhaps mark if they'd forgotten I was injured. I made a 2 yard pass to a player in the centre circle who proceeded to beat 3 or 4 of their players, round the keeper and stick it in. Best assist ever lol

What's the stats for s*** tackle attempts that put your own side in deep s***?
I was thinking similar. There's no stat for being out of position, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, not being able to press and lack of physicality and defensive awareness.
I would cut Kamada the slack that he's an attacking midfielder and there seems no point playing him in a holding position in a two man midfield. He's not strong enough, quick enough, defensively aware enough nor is he that good at tackling.
I would think his strengths are technical ability and passing - he can likely shoot but we've only seen that once or twice. Even then, Devenny offers more to our style of play, plus he can develop. Theoretically Kamada is at the peak of his game!

You've actually just demonstrated how statistics are often misunderstood by quoting Devenny stats, as he has barely played.

Football stats can be misleading (see the Vic Reeves quote, which is very good) as has been mentioned above (assists being the most overrated stat) but there is also the confidence level or margin of error.

As Devenny will have such limited data available the confidence level will be low. It's like doing a national survey and only asking 1,000 people, so far too small.

Most people can see how limited and ineffective Kamada is without needing any stats to back this up.

The stats were per 90 BTW.....

Most people have written him off, and will judge a performance by 1 action (the free kick on sat). And even when presented with some stats that show he isn't as bad as people are suggesting, will ignore them.

But….if those stats recorded that he made x number of forward passes , x number of interceptions etc etc , it’s the outcomes of those actions that the stats don’t capture.

But what we all saw was the worst possible outcome of his action after he needlessly conceded that free kick.

I think he’s a decent enough technical player that struggles with the pace and intensity of the Premier League.

Not a fan then ? 🤣

The boy must have something about him. Watch his position on the pitch. OG is no mug and when Kamada does get it right which I think he will he will be a great player. Midfield is the hardest place on a pitch as scrutiny is a lot more intense. I think give him time, he has lost some timber so now is about showing his skill.
He can’t have won the europa league being bad on the pitch. Players have taken a season to get it right and this is one case I believe fits that timeline. We are not going down so give him that at least.
Just saying.

He looked pretty comfortable on the ball when he came on this evening and was definitely better than Eze who had another poor game. He’s not physical enough to be a DM and playing him there earlier in the season when we were short in that area did him no favours and contributed to him becoming the whipping boy here.

As a 10 he plays some nice passes, generally finds a teammate and is prepared to track back and put in a shift. His mistimed tackle against City gave them the free kick that led to the goal, but the fact he was there to make the tackle shows his willingness to track back.

Eze needs competition and currently Kamada is it.

Eze needs a good kick in the Bollix after that piss poor attempt at a penalty last night , I've seen the Eagle mascot take better ones than that and he's wearing flippers ffs.

He is getting there. The last two performances have shown an improvement especially tonight. Still a way to go, and I wonder if he will be able to stand up to the more physical sides. But some positives to be sure.

You can judge a player by what you see on the pitch. Or my favourite, judge him by our statistics (with and without him playing). We justified Wilfried's high respect cos we had tons of data to prove his value.

Kamada must be doing something right cos he has been involved in many of our triumphs in the last 14 months. I know Kamada looks awkward and everbody starts getting on his case, but surely Glasner knows how to get the best out of Kamada ?

Excellent again yesterday - he reads the game really well, presses well, very reliable technically (you can see the rest of the squad trust him and don't mind giving it to him in tight spaces) and he makes great runs.

Not at all the player I thought we'd signed which was a creative, attacking midfielder with a goal threat.

He seems far closer to someone like Hughes in profile - combative, covers loads of ground and offers some quality on the ball.

Becoming a very useful member of the squad.

100%

As you said teammates clearly trust him (and Wharton) and give him the ball in tight situations with players on his back.

For me, his biggest strength, (and this causes issues with fan perception) is his game intelligence. Fans see Hughes and Lerma tearing around, and that = better. But they dont see them getting pulled out of position and leaving big holes.

Watching Kamada, last night was a great lesson on CM tactics. Without the ball, he positioned himself to block the passing lane to the CF/no10. Always looking behind him to make sure that ball to split the midfield wasn't on. When on of the CMs started to move forward with the ball, he'd engage, (and Lacroix/MG would get closer to the CF/no10) but not fly into a tackle, basically get close enough to stop the progression. They would then be forced to pass sideways, and Kamada would drop back into position.

He's also clearly technically very good, rarely needs more than 2 touches. Weight of pass is pretty much spot on.

Agree. He’s never going to be a Will Hughes but even when he was getting dog’s abuse for not tackling you could see he was constantly moving to block passes to the 10s. The big addition last night was how often he made himself available to take passes from players under pressure in tight situations and instantly lay the ball off to a teammate in space. A classy player.

If my memory serves me correct, several times he dawdled on the ball and took an age to decide where to pass it. For me that's been a big issue for him since arriving, his inability to keep up with the pace of the PL. I thought he did ok last night, but Arsenal didn't apply any pressure on the ball. Like all Palace players I want him to succeed, but I don't have quite the enthusiasm others seem to have on here. Can you imagine him competing with Onana or McGinn in midfield on Saturday?

I thought he played well yesterday and clearly i want him to succeed, however, let's be honest.

He's only been here since pre season so your 14 months is about 6 months too long.

He has predominantly been a bit part player and has often only started when we have injuries or suspensions (for Hughes!). in almost all our best performances this season (e.g. Brighton away, Fulham away, both, and Villa at home) he has been used as a sub and has come on to replace tired legs or to prevent Hughes getting sent off.

At CM he is still probably 4th choice out of 4, despite a few improved performances of late.

I’ve never doubted his technical skills. And there are now signs that he’s learning to cope with the physicality and intensity of the Premier League without looking entirely comfortable with it.

Yes, he closes down space well. His distribution is tidy but on the safe side.

And that’s ok for squad player. But it’s not enough for him to be a starter in my opinion.

He did well last night but MOTM is pushing it somewhat

Well, according to the notification i just got from the club, that's what he is, voted for by the 'fans', tho on the bbc it was JPM as he was on Sky. Funny people football fans . . . 😕

The Sky team voted for JP on the strength of his sublime, equalising goal. I nearly voted the same way, for the same reason on the club website, but I considered the game as a whole and ticked the box for Kamada based on, what I thought, to be his overall contribution to the game.
