Kamada will be an asset

Well, according to the notification i just got from the club, that's what he is, voted for by the 'fans', tho on the bbc it was JPM as he was on Sky. Funny people football fans . . . 😕
Why are the BBC more qualified to judge that than Palace fans?

I don't think a player with 5 touches can ever be man of the match, no matter how good the goal!

I didn't say that the bbc voted JP MoTM, it was on their report & voted for by numerous fans, no matter who they support or live . . .

Got you.

Mateta is popular amongst football fans so no surprise he won that.

I thought he played well yesterday and clearly i want him to succeed, however, let's be honest.

He's only been here since pre season so your 14 months is about 6 months too long.

He has predominantly been a bit part player and has often only started when we have injuries or suspensions (for Hughes!). in almost all our best performances this season (e.g. Brighton away, Fulham away, both, and Villa at home) he has been used as a sub and has come on to replace tired legs or to prevent Hughes getting sent off.

At CM he is still probably 4th choice out of 4, despite a few improved performances of late.

Time will tell.

IMO it wont be long before its clear that Wharton and Kamada are the starting pair.

He signed a very lucrative 2 year contract and the first season has about 1 month left - how long do you want to wait?

Kamada and Wharton, barring injuries, will never be the preferred CM pairing in the current formation as neither has the physical capabilities. Hughes has just been extended for 2 years so he is clearly in OG's thoughts.

If our transfer window is as usual it's a possibility but likely Wharton will go. We've been linked with a right back/ midfielder friend of Eze's for a couple of seasons now. Is it Bright Osai-Samuel or something like that?
I think we're very determined to hang onto Wharton this summer (with Guehi almost certainly going, and Eze likely-ish to) - it would take a silly offer for us to consider selling Wharton, but given how rare his profile is, we may well get a silly offer.

Not much longer. Over the last month or so he's had decent contributions in every game he's played. Things have clearly started to 'click'.

Kamada is more progressive than Lerma and Hughes, and like Wharton will make some mistakes. IMO if we want to progress up the league we cant pack our midfield full of battlers. We need to prioritise technical midfielders who can pass.

We went through the same evolution at the back a few years ago. With Anderson and Guehi less 'solid' than their predecessors, but has ultimately lead to more progressive football.

100%

As you said teammates clearly trust him (and Wharton) and give him the ball in tight situations with players on his back.

For me, his biggest strength, (and this causes issues with fan perception) is his game intelligence. Fans see Hughes and Lerma tearing around, and that = better. But they dont see them getting pulled out of position and leaving big holes.

Watching Kamada, last night was a great lesson on CM tactics. Without the ball, he positioned himself to block the passing lane to the CF/no10. Always looking behind him to make sure that ball to split the midfield wasn't on. When on of the CMs started to move forward with the ball, he'd engage, (and Lacroix/MG would get closer to the CF/no10) but not fly into a tackle, basically get close enough to stop the progression. They would then be forced to pass sideways, and Kamada would drop back into position.

He's also clearly technically very good, rarely needs more than 2 touches. Weight of pass is pretty much spot on.
OG has said his off the ball work is his strength. Looking at what might happen without the ball can be as good as having the ball. I said this a while back and rice did it for years at spam and only recently has driven forward with goals for arsenal.
If kamada can progress as rice has then we do have a decent player.

Whilst I welcome Kamada’s improvement, and can see what he brings to the team, I think it’s a bit of a stretch to think he’ll replace Hughes in current plans.

Hughes is a candidate for player of the season which, for all of his improvement , cannot be said of Kamada.

Glasner has said that Hughes is one of the only ‘talkers’ in the team and is a key figure in the dressing room.
For all of his yellow cards, the team do seem to miss some grit when Hughes doesn’t feature
He also doesn’t dwell on the ball , keeping passes moving with one or two touches.

I would like to see Kamada in a 3 man midfield where his mobility and support play could come to the fore; however, I recognise this is unlikely to happen.
