Sorry but thats rubbish. The amount of times I've heard that, we dont win yet lo and behold, we stay up.
I remember a few years ago the Sunderland home game was regarded by everyone as 'must win'. WE lost 5 0 was it? Stayed up and Sunderland went down.

Don't forget big Sam spent as much as he could in the transfer window around that time so we had 3 regular additions for the rest of the season that year. That clearly helped us stay up.

I suspect money will be tight this January so 1 or 2 incomings might be our limit.

The additions when 'Big Sam' was at the helm were Schlupp, Van Aanholt, Milivojevic and Sakho on Loan from Liverpool.

Allardyce joined after we had played 17 PL games and were sitting in 17th position. We ended the season in 14th place.

That season we had 4 more points after 11 games and were clear of the relegation zone. We also brought in three players who significantly improved the first team in PVA, Milivojevic and Sakho on loan. Even then we only got to 41 points and 6 clear of relegation.

So this season we have made a worse start and it is unlikely we have the funds to bring in three players who walk into the first team. As I say we are in trouble

We've got 27 games to get the 31 points which is the usual margin for safety (i.e a 38 total).I know the required total may be lower, but 38 is usually enough.

There are so many unknows; whether our key players stay fit, our moves in the January window, our results in games v teams at the bottom of the table (i.e 6 pointers).

The one thing I do feel sure of though is that we have to pick up some wins between now and the end of the year to avoid a mountain to climb in the new year.

Looking at the fixture list ,this would mean replicating the result against Spurs in forthcoming fixtures against some of the top teams we face before Christmas.

At the moment it looks like we have a struggle on our hands, but I had a similar feeling towards the end of last season.
I couldn't see where the goals were coming from, and then all of a sudden we couldn't stop scoring.

yep. Almost like when one of the best young attacking players in world football came back to the line up our attack improved. The worry is this season we don’t have an Olise to come back. That means we are going to have to find a way to grind out some results. Let’s hope we can

For years it was “we only win when Wilf plays”. Now apparently we were a one man team again last season. Olise played 19 games last season, 11 before his second hamstring and 8 after. We won 2 of the first 11 with him in the team, and 5 of 19 without him. Did he contribute significantly to the 6 wins in our last 8? Yes. Was it all down to Olise? Absolutely not. The team as a whole played well and Glasner brought the best out of the players.
Our current problem is a combination of loss of form, injuries and some bad luck. This team is capable of playing well without Olise, and of stringing together a run of decent results to get us clear of relegation.

But over the years we have always had a general ie Jedinak, Delaney, Dann, McArthur, Luka,Gallagher ect with decent wingers Bolasie, Zaha, townsend ect to get us out of trouble, I'm not saying our current bunch ain't good enough but we just lack in some areas.
