Is Glasner the problem?

I am not usually a doom merchant when it comes to the club's fortunes, and we have wriggled out of a few tricky situations over the last few seasons, but one thing I must say is that we never seem to learn our lesson. Poor pre-season preparation, late signings, poor signings, sicknotes, etc etc all lead to us never hitting the ground running when the season starts. All those poor decisions had to catch up with Chancer Parish at some stage, and here we are.
Maybe Parish thinks he'll wave his magic wand and three journeymen will arrive in January and all will be well. I have my doubts. We're currently sit in the bottom three and there's a strong likelihood that this is where we'll be come the New Year. Never mind eh?
I am of course the esteemed HOL's resident "Doom merchant" but given that we have only played 11 PL games, I have attempted NOT to gallivant down the path of negativity.

Some of our fixtures to the end of the year are somewhat daunting and should our results continue on our current trajectory and we become marooned in the relegation zone, I can assert with confidence that my state of mind will be filed under 'Perturbation', my brow corrugated with grave concern.

The Elijah of doom and gloom will return to HOL, in actual fact normal service might resume in short order if results in the next few games are disappointing.

I'll be listening closely to the Glasner press conference today .
If he says it's the same squad for the Fulham game ,with only Hughes returning, I'll fear the worst.

We need some positive news on Eze, Wharton, Doucoure, Lerma and Nketiah.

You can't compete seriously in the Premier League with the team that faced Fulham.

-------------Henderson-------------
Clyne---Lacroix---Guehi---Mitchell
Muñoz--Hughes--Develny-Schlupp
----------Sarr------Mateta----------

That would be a better formation is none of the others is available, Glasner you are the manager, MANAGE

To an extent, I agree in as much as we always seem to be heading towards a New Year firefighting.

However, dealing with the points you raise ;

Poor pre-season - having seven senior players unable to participate due to the summer international tournaments was a disruptor for sure. I'm not quite sure what the club could do about that. I went to a number of the pre season games and the players available were doing ok.

Late signings - the transfer market is complex. Palace can't simply wield the cheque book and do deals. It does seem to take them longer to complete than other clubs though and I suspect that's due to Palace trying to avoid paying top dollar at the beginning of the window. In a perfect world the manager would have his squad for the season in place before the new season starts. But it doesn't work like that currently.

Poor signings - Kamada certainly comes into that category at the moment. And I can't see that situation improving. Sarr and Nketiah have been disappointing but with previous experience at EPL level, I am hoping they come good. Would I have signed either of them if it was up to me ? - no.

Sicknotes - part and parcel of football. We seem to have been unlucky when it comes to our players picking up injuries on international duty. Johnstone, Olise and Wharton notably. Eze and Doucoure seem injury prone and Lerma seems to be going down that path too.

We need reinforcements come January. Depending on which clickbait site you go on we have either plenty of money to spend / a very limited budget / have to sell before we buy. You can call Parish a '' chancer '' but we have to face financial facts. And I don't see how you can hold him accountable for '' all those poor decisions '', most of which he has no control over.

The club has not been in a good place recently, but with only eleven games gone it's too soon to write us off.

Agree with much of this.
Where I disagree is there always seems to be an element of 'barrow boy' or brinkmanship about our transfer dealings.
Other clubs do on occasions conduct their transfer dealings early in a seemingly planned and coherent manner.
With us it frequently seems to be a last minute matter .

Now Parish may say this approach has stood us in good stead with financially advantageous deals- who knows?

However, Glasner has mentioned his discomfort with four players arriving on the final day of the window and there have been similar mutterings from previous managers.

I do agree with you on this - and I was trying to explain the possible rationale behind it.

It's very frustrating the way Palace conduct themselves in the transfer market.

A sports journalist claimed that the "good" clubs often agreed their transfer deals during the previous window with club and player. Nothing would be signed but the deal in principle was done, so come the start of the next window it was just a rubber stamping process.

I suspect that some of our deals may involve talking to the player but not the club. We then hope we can do a deal with the club.

Our returning players should provide the necessary laxative effect, unless Glasner plays them about of position and they're between two stools. The manager's movements can be hard to fathom. But I'm sure he won't lose his bottle
Must be why we're bringing in George Sorearse as an investor. Money no object - before long we'll have piles.

He's a pretty experienced manger, I suspect he does.
He isn't though is he, four years in the Bundesliga and 18 games in the premiership, doesn't make him an experienced manager, Steve Cooper has managed more games in the premier/Championship, and i wouldn't call him experienced, but more than Glasner

We can all relax.
One report says Glasner is very confident going forward based on the data indicating we should be on 15.7 points (not sure where the .7 comes from).

Doucoure and Lerma back for the Villa game but Eze not being risked and Nketiah not ready. Hughes is back from suspension so I’m guessing the usual back five plus Doucoure with either Hughes or Lerma, but wonder who will be up front with JP and Sarr. Could we play Hughes in front of Doucoure and Lerma ?

What does this really mean - presumably that we should have scored more goals than we have done. Eze presumably is a big chunk of this. Well stop press. His finishing isn’t that great. Nor is Sarr’s. Nor Nketiah. Ridiculous concept.
