Freedman

If Parish was happy with the job Freedman was doing then at least he has a template to look for in his replacement. Palace are now seen as a great family club where young players can develop with the support of a loyal fan base. Freedman has played a hand in shaping that image. What I would say is that most of our recent signings that have been successful have not exactly been unknown quantities. Guehi, Wharton, Eze and Olise were all top performers in the Championship. Lacroix and Mateta were both well-recognised in the Bundesliga. Munoz is the only one you could probably say came out of the ether. In fact, when we've gone for lesser-known players like Ahamada, Jach, Camarasa, Plange, Sorloth, etc. it could be argued that is when it has not always come off. My point is, it seems the most important thing is perhaps not the ability to find players but rather the ability to convince the best young players to come to us rather than another club. Meh. I'm just waiting to see Willowina on here after the summer.

Freedman s managerial spell showed a cautious streak that would gladden Roy's heart, perhaps in Glasner's mind a less cautious approach is required,it would not surprise me if Glasner wanted someone he knew and trusted in the Football director role, let us see what happens.

Freedman did a good job overall, but in all walks of life people move on for a variety of reasons, and part of me doesn't blame him for going for a big payday. As others have said he'll be back at another PL club, in or within 2 years, I'd say.
The love is flowing for Glasner but he should not be able to dictate or veto the successor. Managers come and go, we know that. Keep him in the loop and maybe seek his views but in the final analysis SP has to appoint who he believes is the best candidate. If it's Moody so be it, he's served time for any indiscretions, but the club needs the best available.
On a lighter note who is the DOF at Lyon?

I have no hard feelings this time. A thank you for a job well done. Sometimes it's just time to move on. 😊

Maybe a change will do us good. The players bought last summer were "Crystal palace" players we have been looking at for a long time. Not necessarily the ones Glasner wanted. This could be the direction we are going ahead of a new Glasner contract and new transfer window coming up. Who knows.

According to Talksport after speaking to Parish it will not be Moody

You can only speculate but Glasner has been unhappy with our tardiness in the transfer windows, but I doubt too he was too overjoyed about getting Nketiah in - Doogie and SP were after him for years, not Glasner, so there could well have been a difference of opinion there seeing as Eddie has struggled to fit in to Glasner's system and OG may well have raised doubts prior to Eddie's arrival. On the flip side Kamada has hardly set the world on fire either. If we are going to poach a recruitment specialist, hate to say it but the best place to look atm is probably Brighton, but they are at a very similar level to us so it would be hard to prize anyone away.

DF has done well, but there have been a fair few duds as well and i suspect we have an extensive scouting network so not sure how much credit (or criticism) DF can take. I wish him well.

Regarding the attractiveness of the club i think you are doing us a disservice. We are an established Premier League club and pay well. Outside the top 6 we offer players an opportunity to play and a platform to showcase their talents.

Any talented youngster should see Palace as an excellent club, if only as a stepping stone.

I remember Matt Jansen choosing Palace instead of Man U years ago as he felt he'd play more often.

The issue we have is getting players from bigger clubs. Not only will they be on massive salaries but they will see the move as a step down e.g. Tekkers and Sakho. Also, some of these players are overpriced and simply not as good when they play with 'lesser' players e.g. Nketiah.

The current strategy of getting the odd very talented lower league player and a few ambitious foreign players seems to be best approach for us, but it has taken a number of years for the club to get there.

Well it's cryptic as it hints of someone knowing something if they write '' brace yourself for a summer of change ''....just my view but obviously not yours.

Of course we will lose one or two this summer. But I'm not expecting wholesale changes so I'm interested to hear what people think those could be.
I guess with Marc now being first choice CB for England you would think unlike Newcastle last summer, someone’s going to make us an offer we can’t refuse this summer.

The best players will have options, so I don't see it as controversial that we need a good salesman. Several of the young signings have spoken about Freedman contacting them directly and painting a picture of what it means to join a club like ours. He seemed to understand the importance of the personal touch. Take Wharton for instance, he could easily have waited until the summer and signed for Spurs, or another bigger club, so how did DF convince him to join us in the January?

100%.

I can remember a fair few players citing a chat with DF/OG/SP as the reason for joining.

Not wanting to undermine any of Doug's achievements, but its hardly rocket science. Give em a call, go and meet them in person, speak to their family etc.

Again, not wanting to take away from Doug's job, but the blueprint is now in place. And we are over the hump of the squad rebuild, its 'just' a case of more of the same.

The success of Palace since 2010 has Parish and Freedman stamped all over it from so many perspectives - a real team effort. Indeed, it was Parish who first recognised Freedman's abilities when Eddie Howe pulled out after being offered - and apparently initially accepting - the managerial role and Dougie stepped in.
Freedman put together a really good team on a shoestring when Coach and has replicated that with the current first team and the academy set up as DoF. His fingerprints are over everything on the football side.
I must say I wonder what has really gone on as the announcement seemed so sudden and his decision surprising especially after turning down big English opportunities. Irrespective, I think he has done an amazing job and will be a very hard act to follow.

Dammit I am gutted, just found this out. WTF do the Saudi's want with a talent scout ffs? And the gay snake charmer to replace him? Is it really talent Dougie looked at or moneyball stats?

I literally just posted about him finding a replacement for Chilwell. BOLLOCKS 😡

Stop getting your knickers in a twist. The guy has been with us for about 24 years. He has given us a longer service than anyone I know.

Let him try something new if that's what he wants. Wish him well and move on.
I recognise and applaud his sterling achievements at our club and wish him all the very best for the future.
