Arsenal pursued a deal for Zaha throughout the 2019 summer transfer window but they were unable to meet Palace’s valuation for the player - with the club holding out for nothing less than £100m.

Apart from he was sir alex last ever signing and he signed for utd, I dont see many clubs lining up to sign eze, yes he's great for us but he's nowhere near good enough for a top club, not that zaha would have either but ability wise he's better than eze. Olise, it was plainly obvious he had far more potential than both and will go on to have a career playing at the top. Zaha wasn't good enough and neither is eze.

As you mention, Eze, good as he is, isn't that at level, but there's time, who knows, Pirlo matured into a phenomenal player...

As you mention, Eze, good as he is, isn't that at level, but there's time, who knows, Pirlo matured into a phenomenal player...

Yes, consistency is the key, and Eze's stats show he is more consistent than Wilf, an assist for a winger every 858 minutes is a pathetic return for the talent he had

Wilf was greedy, he'd take on too much on when there was a teammate in a much better position. Very often trying to beat the defender, cut in, and scuff a shot from a difficult angle, either wide or straight at the keeper. He must have been frustrating to play with.
I don't compare him with Eze - Eze has room for improvement, Wilf never changed.

Disagree with this - Wilf underwent a major change in playing style throughout his career - from a tricky winger who contributed to games through his ball carrying and ability to get us up the pitch, to an impactful final third player who could play centrally and score goals.

I think we have to realise we'll never quite have the complete team.

There is a lot about squad depth. We have talent and the development to playing full matches - whether returning from injury or graduating from our academy - is something that we need to see. With one target for the opposition goals may not come. Mateta is often a handful, but the handful can be literal when he is held and prevented from moving. Movement is the key with our team becoming able to swap players with the substitute sometimes a greater threat than the replaced player, is a good target.
There is a whole to consider, with pulling the opposition away from their penalty spot - by passing back - is an important part of any game.

It's a very surface-level comparison that lacks any real context - on the whole they played in very different Palace sides; we scored 57 goals in the league last season, which is a lot more than we tended to get under Hodgson... in 19/20 we scored 31 league goals in total.

How many of Eze's goals and assists are from set-pieces?
How many penalties did Wilf win in his career? None of those count as assists.

It's a pointless comparison without context.

One big difference between Eze and Zaha is the latter had to carry the team for several seasons. We can win when Eze is out or not at his best, but for several years if Wilf was out we didn't win. The other difference as I see it is that Eze clearly loves football, but Wilf had perhaps an unhealthy level of competition in him which sometimes helped us and other times hindered us and him. I hate to say it but I think Eze is suffering a hangover from Olise's departure and perhaps is lacking a bit of motivation having possibly hoped to have got a big move himself last summer.

Agreed. I’ve seen many games when Wilf kept a poor Palace side in it. And Palace in the Premier League. He often had to function pretty much as the only attacking threat. Eze has had a much more balance side around him for much although not all of his time. Anyway both great players.
