Those authors regularly disagree with each other within that same book, and there are plenty of additions by other authors that were discarded before we reached the book we have today.
 
I am an atheist, I don’t proclaim to know to be right but personally I have absolutely zero faith or belief in a faith. I have read the bible many times, as well as other holy books. I was top of my class in Religious Studies despite not being religious myself.

If the God that exists within Christianity and Christian scripture exists, and exists exactly as described and quoted in those scriptures, then he would not be worthy of praise or worship anyway, in my opinion. Certainly as described in the Bible, God comes across as an extremely amoral character who frequently plays the most horrific games with us, for nothing more than his own entertainment and flattery.

My view on the Christian God is much the same as Stephen Fry’s. If I were to find myself in front of such a figure, I’d immediately want to question him about his ethics.

But those are my own thoughts on it and of course people are free to have their own.

Clearly most of the Palace squad are people of faith, by and large Christians at the moment, who not only hold their God in high regard but consider their achievements to be at least partly because of God.

They are free to have their opinions in this society, and that’s something I’m glad of. I’m also glad that they can all feel closer to each other as team-mates because they share the same or similar beliefs.

I do find it a bit comical when they point to the sky after a goal, but I certainly wouldn’t try and stand in their way from doing so.

I guess the Christian response to the above quote (and your views) is that God didn't in fact create evil. The bible says he created the heavens and the earth and he was pleased. It was good. It wasn't 'til man thought he could do without God that sin entered the world and we started fecking everything up. We separated ourselves from goodness...which in turn required the Father to send his son as a perfect sacrifice, to redeem us and bring us back to him.

Not saying I fully believe all of that literally...but I think that's the theory.

It is, but he’s supposed to be all powerful, and to let us fxck everything up so to speak is a choice.

He put the tree of wisdom in the garden of Eden and forbade us to eat from it. That was a game. Then essentially disowns humanity, rather than taking any ownership of the situation when he actually is responsible for it.

There’s also the story of Job. Job was basically the best guy and a perfect “follower” of God. God wasn’t content with this and makes a bet with the devil that he can destroy Job’s life and Job will still be faithful. He killed all of his family and tortured him, pretty much because he was bored. It’s so fxcked up, and it’s tried to be painted in a positive light, as in oh, Job never lost his faith, but maybe he should have.

I'm agnostic, but would say that if there is an omnipotent God that created everything it is pretty pointless trying to work out what that god's purposes are. It would be like an ant trying to understand a gardener.
 
All religions fly in the face of science and should be rated as a companion piece to Grimm's Fairy Tales, religion has caused great divides within humanity and many wars. I can understand the thinking behind religion as an opium for the people but since Dawin it is provenly unbelievable and doesn't stop crime today.

What you say is generally true, but it does not disprove the existence of a god - Darwin's theories certainly don't.

No, 35 different views, not the same one, Jesus certainly wasn't the son of a so called "God" i am sure he existed and was a Gandhi like character, think his real name was Brian.

As I indicated earlier in this thread. A lack of disproof is not evidence for the existence of anything.
It is not reasonable to make such an argument.

There are an infinite number of things you can't disprove. It's meaningless.

Proof is not required for belief in gods. Only faith and ignorance. Most religious devotees are indoctrinated at a young age. They believe what they are told by elders who don't know better.

My post was in answer to "since Darwin it [religion] is provenly unbelievable". I was merely pointing out that it is not the case.

Certainly, in so much as no evidence would be sufficient to affect the faith of the incurably devout.

Darwinism in itself does not answer the bigger questions for anyone. Those question will most likely never be answered.

Darwin's explanation for the entirety of human evolution is not proven 100% undeniably.

There is plenty of scope for a mix of evolution and intelligent design - which is a 100% undeniable concept, because its what we do with our own livestock and pets.
