West Ham Match Thread

I’m sure the majority have been from the bench. But the commentator today said he hasn’t scored in his last 32 appearances.
That must be soul destroying for a striker.

Nketia. I believe he can play a tune for us. Im sure Glasner believes it. Nketia has got to believe it.
There are signs in his play. He is desperately inconsistent so far in his career, but there is something there.
If he really works hard with our coaches maybe they can get him up there.
Look at Mateta since Glasner and his team came. Real improvement.
They also presumably decided Edouard was past help.
So the ball is in Nketia court. Keep at it Eddie.

Spam had a good win over Fulham midweek, so I thought this will be a tough ask.

The warm-up was on final score and I immediately felt relief, they just did not look great.

The coach pleased with the improvement, and down to his tactics, I hope the club will not mess him around again.

😎

At half time I expected to end up rueing not scoring while we had the upper hand; but West Ham never turned up. Maybe beating Fulham in a three match week emptied their tank? You coukld say we paced ourselves against Leicester. Good performances all roind; let's hope they can be repeated against Brentford who are sure to make it harder.

Fantastic result for the boys! Mateta got some stick early on in the season(At least from my perspective) but he is clearly our best player and thankful that he is here. Hughes also has turned it around, hopefully he continues to do so.

Glasner finally seems to be getting us to play the way he wants and I am eager to see how further up the table we can climb.

Enjoy your weekend gents!

Glasner talks a lot of having players in top shape for any particular game and he is pretty ruthless at not picking them if they are not up to speed. Lerma was not picked this game ( other managers may have played him ) and as a team we ran all over West Ham who to be fair had a patched up forward line. Don't think i will say it very often but Hughes and Kamada bossed the midfield!!
West Ham at the moment offered less that teams like Ipswich and Leicester did and Lopetegui had a good track record before taking over at West Ham so i don't Potter is going to transform them. They for me are a dark horse for relegation. Their fan's will feel like they are due a refund. I don't really think Henderson had a save of note to make and mid way through the second half the commentator said they had only 6 touches in the Palace penalty area. Just goes to show how solid defensively we were today and have been during the run we are on.

He is still sick.

Another controlled away win and what another beautifully worked goal from the back, this was easier than the Leicester game and the players are looking in control especially in second half’s of games. Ipswich, Leicester and West Ham all followed a familiar pattern.

Glasner is the epitome of an Austrian/German in his efficiency and tactics. He dresses and sounds like a German Tiger Tank commander about to pummel the opposition, I love it!

His header against Arsenal wasn't 32 games ago.
I heard that his last PL goal was November 2023. I’m sure a PL goal will come, but he ain’t going to knock Mateta off his position any time soon.
He has to take his chances, and he has had a few to be fair that he hasn’t taken.
I do think though that Mateta’s penalty taking isn’t confident, unlike Eze. Maybe Nketiah perhaps should have been given the ball back??

If we were two or three up in the last minute maybe! I just had a flashback to an out of form Benteke missing one.

That said Mateta got away with one there. Don't see many pens where the keeper dives over the ball.

Yes, it's a premier league goalless streak. I was fuming when we bought him, especially for that amount of money, as I never rated him and though he had scored a few for Arsenal most strikers would with the chances that team creates. I accept it is the exact problem they have right now though!

However, his league cup headed goal was class. A bad player couldn't fluke that. And his runs in behind off the bench yesterday were fabulous. Of course won the penalty with a perfectly timed touch round the keeper.

But his miss really smacked of an out of form player low on confidence. He was already running at an angle away from goal near the edge of a box so to try an take it round the keeper was never going to work. He had to hit it first time. I think like many players over the past year who were not highly rated Glasner will get him going. The team is going to be less stressed about their league position now and can play with more composure and confidence.

While that happens and Mateta is fit Nketiah is good opiton to bring on off the bench to stretch the game and give a threat on the counter. And seems a good understanding with Mateta who is also dropping deep and playing passes through the lines like Harry Kane.

That's a very fair summation.

Agree with this. I think we will see more of him in the last part of games. Especially when the play is stretched and there is space for him to run into. You can see he is struggling but also really trying hard. Yesterday he didn’t take his chance because his first touch was poor and took him away from goal. His first touch isn’t great all round to be honest. However, he made good runs. £25m was clearly a ludicrous amount to spend on a striker who has never scored more than a handful of goals in a season. However hopefully OG can get him being a useful part of the squad

Having a read of the West Ham fanzine, they cant understand why they paid £40m for Kilman, who they dont rate and we picked up LaCroix for £18m, who they think is far better player.
West Ham have spent millions more than us in recent years, but dont seem to get their recruitment right, they wasted the £100m they got for Rice.
