US Politics

Very much agreed. You only have to look at where his funding went for the last campaign though. To me he’s the same as a Murdoch that has hitched his money to where the power was going. Not sure there’s any example in our lifetime in any sort of major economy and democracy that has given someone with his money this amount of power within a government.
Maybe not in our lifetimes but Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Carnegie and their like influenced the government (to their own ends) in their time. Not saying that makes it right but it has happened.
Some might say it's the American way.

*starts googling all the above*

Musk's team basically exposing the proof that some of us have known for a long time (thanks to Mike Benz) that USAID was basically a CIA front being used to funnel US taxpayer money into its desires all over the world.

Another 'conspiracy theory' proven.....though anyone who actually believed this wasn't true must have also believed in Santa coming down their non existent chimney.

Many of these routes for this money are extremely controversial to say the least.....and the lack of transparency is obvious.....it's because it shouldn't have been done.
Really?

If there is really corruption then deal with it. The CIA is run by the Federal Government. If it runs programmes which need to be kept secret then there are ways to fund them, or stop funding them, without disrupting the work to alleviate poverty and disease.

"AIDS related deaths in the next five years will increase by 6.3 million" if funding is not restored, UNAIDS executive director Winnie Byanyima said.

Do the American people really want so many deaths placed at their door? Do they really want to send such a huge invitation to China to capture the hearts and minds of billions of people?

Fortunately a Judge has now issued a restraining order pausing this. How long will Congress tolerate the President abusing his power, acting like a dictator and ignoring the constitution?

This is what USAID really does:-

This is populism taken to its nadir.

Unless the USA finds a way to reverse it I think will come to be seen as the point when it abrogated its claim to be the world’s leading economy.

America tends to be an insular country not wishing to involve itself with foreign issues and has struggled to accept that the job of the biggest country in the world is to police the world.Trump is pulling the portcullis up.

Oh, sure. It's not as though America has ever been criticised for trying to "police" the world.

So much better to be criticised for trying something than not trying anything.

Especially when the medium to short term interests will be severely damaged by not trying.

This is what happens when the politically inept gain power.

Every country faces criticism but getting the job done is more important than reacting badly to carping.

What a country spends its taxpayer's money on.....and it needs to be remembered, when you talk about 'policing the world' a huge number of Americans don't agree with that....In fact I doubt many Democrat voters even agree with too much of it....especially with the state of much American infrastructure.

Trump campaigned on auditing American spending and cutting back on funding.....it's not as though this wasn't being said pretty much at every speech and as Trump won all three branches of government he has the right to do all this.

When you hear the outrage that's mainly coming from the US Democratic supporting media or BBC types and the affected workers of this agency.....they are involved in these underhand scams on the taxpayer or support it.

When you hear what America was spending money on....taxpayer money....it's outrageous.....Here's Joe Rogan to list just a snippet.

For someone who's been so critical of Russian involvement in other countries you're remarkably keen for America to get involved in international matters. Can you honestly say that you'd be cheering Trump's intervention?

OK. Are you seriously claiming that if Trump were to "police" Britain that there wouldn't be any complaints?

Exactly and it appears that in many cases this CIA front was just throwing money at people who resent America and in some cases hate them.

Wait until they get to Syria....cus we all know what's happened there.

Some dark, dark and dirty people in the US.

How long will Congress, especially the Senate, accept the way Presidential power is being used to bypass them?

Many, if not most, of the blizzard of things being announced are actually the responsibility of Congress. Trump is overriding them by inventing “emergency situations” like the “fentanyl crisis” to justify executive orders. There is obviously a drug problem but there is also a constitutional way of dealing with it.

We were warned about the possibility of Trump attempting to become a dictator but most dismissed it as impossible. With the House Republicans standing back and suggesting Trump has the mandate to behave as he is that dismissal looks increasingly misplaced.

Senators tend to be less dependent on Trump for their survival and more prepared to stand up for the Constitution and rule of law. So it’s in the Senate where I expect, and hope, to see push back. Mitch McConnell is no fan of Trump. Nor does he now lead the Republican Senators. I then wonder if opposition may coalesce around him on the Republican side. Opposition from the Democrats is a certainty. It only takes 4 Republicans to vote against and they can stop a lot of this.

To avoid being sanctioned by a President who has already shown he completely rejects any suggestion that people can transition. This is just one iteration of that thinking.
Who is being unfairly treated here. A small number who want to compete against physically weaker opponents or the vast majority of female participants?

Trump literally wins all the branches of government in a democratic vote and he gets called a dictator for pushing his agenda through, all of which he campaigned on.

Apparently auditing government spending makes someone a dictator.

Socialists just love spending other people's money.

I don’t want Trump involved in anything, anywhere.

I do though want America to continue to help funding the vital work around the world that helps alleviate poverty, improves health care and provides clean drinking water. If Russia did the same, without attaching strings, via third party agencies like the UN, then I would welcome that too. The objection to Russia is their covert interference in politics and the spreading of misinformation and disinformation into the minds of the impressionable.

Untrue.

Doing it constitutionally, via Congress and not via executive orders, could not be argued with.

Doing it as he is, can and must be. It’s essential that Congress examines the details, looks at the impacts and decides on lawfulness. There are reasons why there is a separation of power. Avoiding dictators being the most obvious.

Indeed, executive orders are somewhat problematic. Even Henry VIII used to get push back on some of his decrees. Although say much out loud and you likely lost your head.

That’s not relevant to the point I made.

Ensuring that sport is fair involves more than just favouring the majority. If the person making the rules is unapologetically prejudiced then fairness will not happen.
