I know that.

If someone is now female, having been initially considered male, and either their physical attributes convey no advantage, or the sport involved isn’t dependent on physical attributes, why not allow them to participate?

Only prejudice stops it.
Unbelievably naive.

Another superb decision by Trump.

Yes it’s really only common sense but it’s huge and sends a clear message. This woke nonsense has no place in elite sports (or society).

There are only two biological sexes, a scientific fact and a lot has been written about the unfair advantages of those born with the male chromosomes (XY) competing in certain female category sports.

It may make no difference in some sports such as darts or snooker but where it does, there should be absolutely no chance of transgender women competing in female sports.

I was rubbish at sport when I was a kid, I could not compete with the kids of my own age. However I had no interest in dropping down a level and playing with smaller and younger kids just so I could win.

I find it odd to say the least that biological males who are rubbish at their chosen sport want to compete with women rather than accepting their place in the natural order of things. I recently saw a Trans person who won a cycling race "it" was head and shoulders above the 2nd and 3rd place women and I don't mean the podium. Their career record as a male racer was rubbish yet they chose to obliterate the women as if this was some kind of an achievement.

How often do you hear women competing in men's sport after transitioning.

The solution of course is for the sports to hold mixed open events.

Not allowing men to compete in women's sport is exactly what they're doing and have done.
That though is not what they have done. They have established a new category of competition to ensure male to female transgenders can compete. They, and the other sports mentioned, are all sports in which physical attributes matter, a fact which has been acknowledged as relevant in deciding how to handle this issue.

Trump has just made a blanket ban. No consideration for the athletes impacted by it. Just pandering by a populist to popular sentiment.

The cycling event you describe is clearly unfair and ought not be permitted. Establishing a new category seems intended to deal with matters fairly. Whether making it open needs some thought and possible restrictions on male riders above specific levels of achievement.

One of my grandchildren, biologically female, now identifies as male. They attend an elite sports college that specialises in ladies rugby and are playing for them, and at County level and have bulked up considerably in the last year because of the diet they follow. They are completely accepted within the group, at least one of whom is going through the same experience they are.

Whilst physically capable of playing men’s rugby can you imagine it being safe for them to do so?

The men who compete against women are financially motivated

Perhaps a handicap system could be introduced. Weights could be tied to the men to make them slower and they should have to wear padded bras, ponytail wigs and tight shorts.

In fact, perhaps all competitors should be handicapped so that, in these egalitarian times, every race would be a dead heat.

This could be extended to football, so that every game ends 0-0 and all the teams become joint-champions.

The other sports can also set up new categories can't they?

You keep using the term blanket ban as if it is relevant or means something…it doesn’t.

He has signed an executive order banning trans women from women sports. It is precisely the right thing to do.

There are two sexes - Male & Female. People assigned male chromosomes at birth compete in male categories, people assigned female chromosomes compete in female categories - unless of course it is an open event for both sexes, the likes we have in darts, bowls & snooker etc. or a mixed competition, the likes we have in tennis, badminton (and many others).

Simply re-identifying as a man or as a woman does not mean you are one and no matter what medical procedures an individual has done, the set of chromosomes a person is born with CANNOT be changed.

So why were they allowed to compete in contact sports to start with and how safe was this decision for the women taking part?

Exactly. The men I have seen in the media were all much bigger than the women.

I would actually have some sympathy for a man who was the same height and build as the women as he wouldn't have an advantage.

However as you point out most of the men are winning competitions, getting prize money, medals, media attention and sponsorship deals which they would not get if they competed in the mens events because they are no bloody good.

Its cheating and are they really Trans? It seems there is a wall of silence over what procedures if any these men have had. Have they had their genitalia removed or are they just a bearded bloke in a dress?

Again I have some sympathy with a man if he has had the full surgery but it appears in the case of the American swimmer that according to the women in the dressing room he is all male. Just calling yourself Trans doesn't make it so.
