Very good.
Kennedy is an interesting appointment. He does have some odd ideas which drown out his better ones.
I saw a clip where the held up a list of food additives and said he would ban them. These additives are already banned in the UK and EU (for many years) but are widely available in US foods, so nothing crazy about that idea.

It’s completely crazy.
This was my industry for most of my working life and I became the President of a National Society representing the scientists involved in part of it. The only difference is that the threshold that determines safety has an even higher bar in the EU, whose standards we follow, than the USA. Many argue the precise opposite. That the US have got it right and that we are too restrictive. Both ensure total safety and no one, beyond the very rare cases of a particular intolerance, ever get harmed.
It’s crazy because it puts the focus on things that protect us from harm whilst ignoring those that actually harm us. It’s popular because the obese can then blame innocent additives whilst over consuming.
The concentration needs to be on reducing consumption and drastically reducing our use of sugar, fat and especially salt. We consume 10 times the salt our bodies need and it’s responsible for most of our heart disease.
That’s no though what the obese want to hear or what a populist will give them.

If this “team” is better then we need to redefine the word. In his first term he had a few seasoned professionals around him for a while. Mostly they got sacked for daring to disagree with him or calling out his lies. This time they are either sycophants, incompetents, inexperienced, politically nasty or a combination of these. There’s not one who ought to be anywhere near a position of responsibility.

The “Hunter Biden laptop story” had nothing whatsoever to do with the Democrats. It was just political exploitation by the Trump camp trying to divert attention from the real crimes committed by aTrump.
The ballot counting fiasco is a dispute over whether a small number of votes should be counted. It’s openly disputed and not done in secret in any attempt to cheat. A court will resolve it for sure. Trying to suggest this is a big deal is garbage.

Every opportunity to withdraw occurred before Harris was the opponent. He didn’t because he regards himself as untouchable. Something his “base” has been indoctrinated to believe and the Supreme Court has helped establish.
What happened on Nov 5th will be analysed for years to come. So I am not yet ready to give a definitive answer. Was it turnout? It seems to me that it is more likely that, as usual in politics, the current administration gets blamed for things that were out of their control, and no credit for those that were. The Biden administration took over the mess left from Trump’s handling of the pandemic and then the materials shortages and oil price hikes caused by Putin to deliver the best recovery in the west. Of course the introverted US consumer only sees their prices increasing and, encouraged by Trump, blamed Biden. Combine that with Trump’s capacity to convince the gullible that his lies are the truth and I don’t think it had much to do with Harris herself. She seems an honest person with a good heart and a genuine respect for democracy.
We don’t though really know why and right now it doesn’t matter. It is, so now we must cope, plan our own response and for the Americans to redouble their efforts to make sure the POTUS in 2029 is actually fit for purpose.
I hear that the response in Australia seems to include them deciding to distance themselves from the USA and draw closer to China. We too must find more reliable friends, at least for the next 4 years.
