Trevoh Chalobah

That is a shame, well he is a great guy and contributed hugely to us so I wish Chalobah all the best with the rest of his career.
Surely they will need to lower that valuation

You'd think so but if they're prepared to pay him £21,000,000+ over the next three years for being a back up and leave for nothing it's their lookout.

Far better centre half buys to be had.

Just look at Lacroix, Huijsen, Zabarnyi, Murillo, Milenkovic; all standout players in the Premier League, bought for less than half of Chalobah’s rumoured price tag and on a fraction of the wages.

In today’s market he’s probably worth £20m. Maybe £25m if somebody really wanted him. Definitely good enough to start for most EPL teams and is versatile. Not going to get in the starting line up for the bigger clubs though (for example Chelsea!). £40m is way off but that is probably just Chelsea flying a kite

We are an amazing agent for Chelsea. Loan us a players for a few months or a year after which their valuation becomes stratospheric. Can't remember if they got a good fee for Loftus-Cheek but made them so many millions on Gallagher and just put Chalobah back on the map for many clubs.

Trevoh's £130k per week (as Nixon's tweet £7m wages above) is a bit high for us even if he'd stayed and then wanted to move here. I would hope he's disgusted by Chelsea's treatment of him and will move away even if his wages are lower. But in the real world it is super rare for anyone to volunteer for a pay cut. Chelsea do need a good fee to cash in on their youth players to help with their FFP / PSR. So he might be stuck. But with very good wages.

Richards played well against the Spammers, he is getting game time, Chalobah is no better than him, and Riad is available, no loss really, LWB please

My view was that Riad was bought to replace Guehi who would surely be sold in the summer. But only Newcastle came in seriously for him and I don't think he wanted that.

Now we must keep Guehi for the rest of the season. But unless we accept him going for nothing he will be sold in the summer. So then we would need a replacement. But not a £40m one and unlikely a £25m one.

But agree that Richards / Riad should be good enough. If Riad is good we might only need another up and coming talent as cover at first.

Based on what i've seen of him i don't think he's worth the £25m that Chelsea supposedly wanted for him in the summer. £40m is ridiculous.
Definitely a good player but too often he has switched off or made a poor decision (1st goal v Wolves as an example).

His wage estimate varies too - i've seen c£50k a week mentioned, which seems realistic, but also over £100k. Clearly the latter is too high a figure for Palace to match.

If his wages are reasonable i think £15m to £20m is a realistic valuation.

The only way i can see it happening is if it's a swap in the summer for Guehi with us receiving a minimum of £20m too (assuming with 1 year left of contract MG is worth c£40m and Chelsea waving the supposed 20% sell on).

Yes, i think we need to keep Guehi now, should have taken the 65m in the summer, but now is not right time, i think looking forward Mitchell could also be added to the 3 man back line, because as expected a new LWB comes in, he will surely play

Mitchell is 5ft9. That is highly unlikely to get in anyone’s back line. Only player of that height I can think of currently playing at the back is Lisandro Martinez. He has struggled badly at times with the physical side of the game.

No to £40m from me unless as others have said it's part ex for Guehi in the summer with a chunk of cash our way. Richards can fill the void for now with Riad as first back up.

We've just about got suitable short term cover in Clyne and Lerma. Then there's Ward and even Holding if the latter isn't sold this window and OG is absolutely desperate. Either way, will need at least 2 new CBs in the summer anyway.

Anyone know of any youth team defenders who are making good progress?

When Spammers paid £40m for Kilman, I'm not so sure they need to. Some silly PL team will cough up (and, despite liking the player, I hope it's not us)
Max Kilman had played in 5 PL seasons prior to joining W.Ham and was 'Ever Present' in his final season at Wolves. He had more top flight experience than Chalobah has at the present time.

I like Chalobah but not at £40m, and I don't anticipate any Premier League clubs paying that for him.

The only club that seems comfortable consistently paying over the odds for players is...err Chelsea !

Palace will need to go into the market again in the summer with Guehi looking likely to leave. And Trev could be of interest as a player that knows how OG plays and already has a relationship with the squad.

I really hope Guehi resists any move to Chelsea. He deserves better.

I hate loans for this reason. TC couldn't get a game there comes to us shows some form and Chelsea recall him because they don't have enough defenders.

This is the 2nd time Chelsea have used us to improve their players (Gallagher).

I would suggest we stop doing business with them.
