Trevoh Chalobah

My view on super Trev is, if he is willing to sign for us, fantastic as he is a good player and our back 3 is starting to, look a real unit. He also crops up with the odd goal or 2. However if there is no chance of signing him then I would get Richards or Riad in as soon as possible to that unit working together otherwise it’s another case of “look what you can’t have” I just don’t see the point in getting him in the shop window for Chelsea to get a better fee.
Clearly Chabolah is in OG’s preferred back 3 and I don’t see that changing while he is available and not injured or suspended.

A counter argument is what is the point of paying a big loan fee to Chelsea and then not playing him.

I thought it was said in the summer that he didn't want to sign for us on a permanent deal and that there is no 'option to buy'.

I got the impression he signed for us last minute as no one else came in for him and wasn't gonna play for Chelsea.

No brainer to sign him up but I think we are going to be disappointed as I expect him to get a transfer to a bigger club either here or abroad.
I am not sure we wanted him on a permanent deal in summer for 2 reasons we had brought Riad and were after Lacroix. Also we considered price to high. Riad was injured last minute of window so we needed a temporary replacement and Chelsea were willing to loan. I doubt there was time for a formal agreement about subsequent purchase but I suspect a figure was discussed. He seems genuinely to have settled and is happy here, he has no future at Chelsea, his wages are affordable so I think a deal could be done possibly around 15-20million.Chelsea will ask for more but I think will settle for this in January as this clears a loan space for us and helps them meet psr. I would not be surprised if we took another Chelsea player on loan possibly Chilwell who has no future there. Problem with him is wages and injury record but for half season should be manageable

Were not both Riad and Richards injured by deadline day and that's why we went for the Chalobah loan? Riad hasn't been available since and Richards barely back. Once our own lads are back and up to speed I'd hope OG would want to give them game time and eventually to start one of them instead of Chalobah unless we are confident that Chalobah's loan can be turned into a purchase.

Do you mean just Kamada? As Munoz has been great, Wharton's been brilliant, Riad's only played one game and Hendo, Sarr, Turner and Nketiah have all got plenty of Prem League experience.
Well,Riad we don't really know,Sarr has played a couple of good games lately,Kamada isn't the grade.

I take your point but if I was OG I’d stick with Chalobah if I considered him to be the best player for the position

At his age he probably wants to be playing most games. He gets that with us. If he goes back to Chelsea he'd probably be back on the bench as soon as players returned and he'd be looking for a new club again by the summer. He's Chelsea's player so it's up to them but I hope he stays.

Maresca was asked at his presser why Chalobah didn’t play for Palace. He said he had no idea and wasn’t aware he hadn’t played. Apparently Ollie said the decision came from the Palace management and wasn’t aware not requested by Chelsea. I wonder if there’s something in the loan deal about payments for cup games or indeed triggering payments after so many games played. Might be optimistic thinking but if we’re trying to buy him this month there might be a reason not to trigger additional payments. Just a thought.

Anderson wanted to stay…unfortunately that is not always a deciding factor these days.

Not quite. Anderson said he wanted to stay but apparently on his terms i.e. If I get my wages doubled and a big contract. Rather than by OG saying the other 2 want to stay he means, reading between the lines, this January window and with contract and money the same as they're being paid.

Realistically I don't think Chelsea will recall Chalobah. If he returns he'll be on the bench, with us his value is increasing (at least being protected)

I also doubt the truth in the Marc Guehi chat.

Only because, he was at Chelsea for so long. Ever present at every youth level, and at England. incl captaining the U17 world cup win. And then performed well at Swansea.

As a player he hasn't blossomed all of a sudden, its been steady growth. He's always been a calm assured defender who is good with the ball. He was from game 1 with us.

After the season with Swansea they decided that he wasn't going to be first team material/to cash in. Maybe because of his height...
