The January 2025 Window

Had we recruited decently in the summer, there would now be no need to add to the squad
I think Lacroix, Sarr and Riad were good signings, Nketiah hasn't had a run at CF, and probably wont, unnecessary signing, Kamada is not good enough, so LWB, RWBcover is minimum, and for me a WB is an attacking player, so 70% attacking skills, 30% defensive skills.

Just consider our midfield.
Doucoure is not the player of old due to his injury and may take time to return to former glories.
Schlupp is now 32 and his best years are behind him.
Wharton had been carrying an injury and it is uncertain when he will return to action.
Kamada has been hugely disappointing.
Ahamada has never been a regular and is out on loan.
Devenny has shown promise but has very limited top-flight experience.
Franca injured.
Ebiowei has never staked a claim for a place. On loan at Oxford Utd has only played 6 games for them the last being in early November.

I would suggest that our Midfield ranks need bolstering.

...and Lerma???

I was concentrating on those who are on the periphery/not contributing positively/injured/out on loan etc etc to highlight our need for midfield reinforcements.
A return of the Doucoure of old and of course the return of Wharton will prove hugely beneficial but there are question marks as to the timescales.

Apropos strengthening in other areas I would agree that there needs to be cover at left wing-back and right wing-back.It is possible that we could conclude some 'Loan' deals.

Fair enough, I thought it was more of a stock take.

Bright Osayi-Samuel was spotted in the stands on Saturday. He's a player we've been linked with for years, his contract is up in the summer and he's a London boy. I think this one could be in the pipeline.

Scary to think the Olise sale money compares to the purchase of Franca and Nketia while his wages have been used for Kamada.
It is so hard these days to get 100% gems when buying players.
Overall Dougie has done very well for us finding talent. It's just quite a few of them seem to be plagued with injuries.
Hopefully next month will bring in some new players all set for the first team.
They are desperately needed.

Last January we acquired Munoz and Wharton.
It was in a January when we signed Mateta on Loan.
I state with a degree of confidence that we will bolster our ranks in the upcoming Transfer 'Window'.
How many times will lightning strike.

How many players do you think could leave us in the Window

Mitchell, out of contract, cant see him doing anything except running his contract down
Guehi, Certain to leave in the one of the next two windows, cant see 65m being offered, maybe 40m
Mateta, i have a feeling he may leave, i wouldn't sell him, but extending his contract i suspect didn't go down well with JP, but it does raise his transfer price, 35/40m Offer, yes or no.

We need to get much better than this. Frankly, we can probably replace Guehi - we have options there.
However, goalscoring centre forwards - that's a tough one. Look at Nketiah so far, we took a risk - it hasn't paid off. Maybe next season? It's a big maybe.
And realistically we need Mitchell and cover for Mitchell - otherwise we're back to square one. For instance I can imagine us buying Chilwell and all of us being excited - perhaps rightly. Two games in he's going to be injured - who's going to be left back then. It's actually been really doing my head in with our constant lack of cover there.

Some you haven't considered there: Ward - will go to lower league perhaps. Clyne not worth keeping now unfortunately, nor Schlupp. So if you consider it, we could have around five leaving. Which is a quarter of our squad (we never have a realistic 25 - possibly 19 at a push).

Our squad balance is not great. Too many centre halves. Schlupp could possibly cover at LWB or and Clyne or Munoz but you feel if Mitchell got injured it would be an area of weakness. Midfield is the engine room and with Wharton's injury we have not really been able to rotate in this area and are reliant on Lerma and Hughes. Upfront we are have Mateta and Nketiah plus Sarr could play this role at a push. Despite his criticism i actually think Kamada is a good player and will come good but is just adjusting to the change to the premier league and is reasonable cover for Eze. In short a left footed attacker who could play on the right would be an option i would be looking at.
