The January 2025 Window

After a quiet few days, there seems to be a few rumours floating around. What are people's thoughts

- Mathys Tel (Bayern) - I think very unlikely. Prob agent talk

- Marcus Edwards (Sporting CP) - may have legs. Not sure how much we need him, but could be a good signing as another winger. Highly rated and we did try in the summer apparently.

- Bright Osayi-Samuels (Fenerbahce) - Do we need another right back? Although a friend said to me he can play LB too, but is right-footed.

- El-Hadji Malick Diouf (Slavia Prague) - 2 bids in. Both rejected. Club don't seem keen to sell and not to us.

Obviously all rumours at this point.
Bit of a worn out list.
Lets hope Dougie's got an ace up his sleeve.

I see there's an Agbinone documentary so hopefully we could see him again sometime on the pitch. Doncaster an obvious chance.

If we don't buy more, which frankly wouldn't surprise me greatly, we may as well see our young players.

I will say that with a loan slot available, it's likely that someone will be desperate for a loan move on deadline day - so I do expect us to get a loan in.

Agbinone has only recently joined Gillingham on Loan.

Glasner bemoaned the hurried nature on the final day of the summer window and the knock on effect on the season.
It would appear that this will be replicated in the January window.

It’s not ideal , but I suppose I don’t hold the purse strings.

We have a loan slot available now which we can use, and I can envisage one permanent signing.
There’s also the possibility of outgoings (Edouard, Holding?) , so I anticipate a busy day on Monday.

He's on loan at Gillingham right now so that won't be happening unfortunately

This really has been an absolute dross transfer window. I can’t remember a worse one. Not just for us but it’s so boring.

With regard to us, on every single transfer news update, we appear to be the only premier league side that never gets a mention.

Dougie and Steve are either playing a blinder and keeping the deals close to there chests or we are buggered and we have no cover whatsoever coming in. If that’s the case I really can’t see Ollie staying after 2 dreadful windows. We’ve just lost Trev back to Chelsea and 2 first team players to long term injury. Our ring master midfielder has not featured for months and god help us if our only left back gets an injury.

Please Steve, I know how you love the drama of deadline day… please pull a couple of rabbits out the hat Monday 🙏

All the time parish is in charge of palace we will never push to the next level hopefully with this takeover parish will no longer be running palace cos he will only have 10% of the football club but palace are totally different football club to any in the world so hopefully it will all change

Be careful what you wish for. The lower leagues are littered with clubs who tried to push to the next level and pushed on catastrophically downwards. Parish has steered the club to a decade in the EPL and financial sustainability. That is pretty remarkable for a club like ours

And why is that Bashy?

Whats he doing so badly that is holding us back?

People moaning about this being a typical Palace window promising progress and failing to deliver.

However, I suggest it's been an unfortunate window to date for the club involving events which were beyond their control.

We started the window looking for two players to fill specific positions. We've got one of them in Esse and have failed so far to get the other (presumably a LWB given our interest in Diouf).

What the club wasn't expecting as the window opened were:
  • Chelsea recalling Chalobah from his season-long loan and
  • serious injuries to two 1st team squad players late in the window
Freedman and his team monitor potential purchases over a period of time. They don't simply wake up one morning saying "we need a CB back-up. Let's go and get one today".

We are in a difficult position now but I don't want to see us making panic buys. We almost certainly have enough to see us safely to the end of the season. We won't get as many points as we would have had the three players lost in this window been available but we should have enough to survive.

As for recalling Ozoh, I doubt the club will go that route. The lad had a very good start at Derby. He's been out for four months injured and only just coming back. Asking him to suddenly get up to the level of match fitness to cope with OG's demanding pressing game in the PL is, IMO, unrealistic. The lad (and Palace) are better served by his regaining match fitness where he is and playing himself back into the Derby starting line-up.

Let's get behind our club and support it through this difficult period and leave Freedman and Parish to get on with their jobs which I'm sure they are trying to do to the best of their abilities.

It feels like the Diouf transfer won’t happen since we’ve had 2 reasonable bids rejected. The injuries to Riad and Doucoure may have changed our priorities. I still fancy we might bring in 1 more permanent signing and 1 loan. Osayi-Samuel is probably one for the summer when Clyne and Wardie leave.
