Starting to look like we are going to be waiting until deadline day, or a day or two before to snap up our can't get a game at Chelsea loan and possibly one permanent signing.
We know its not easy, though other clubs somehow seem to manage better than we do at getting players in early. I don't expect Glasner to walk, but I do expect the first managerial sacking of a decent sized team in one of the top leagues, that he will leave if he's approached. He must be frustrated as are. Looking at the players in the squad beyond the first 11, it becomes apparent that the depth is very poor.
Clyne another year older and looks like a last resort for a few minutes. Doucoure looking like he may unfortunately never be a reliable player again. Riad and Franca, possibly the same. Esse looks raw, but not ready to start a run of Premier League games. Injuries will happen, especially with more games.
I am grateful what SP has done for this club, but his one constant failing, has been getting players in early enough in the transfer window to help the manager. It's been a ride of many slow starts and I expect this could be the same. He is awaiting for everything to align to make a move, but history should tell him that it often doesn't happen that way. If Guehi and or Eze go in the last couple of weeks in the window, we appear desperate and I wouldn't be surprised if adequate replacements don't come in. 'We tried, but it isn't easy'
As they say, you can't afford to stand still in the Premier League and that's what we have done this year. We have been too busy soaking up the glory from winning the FA Cup (not that isn't a bad thing) and worrying about which European competition we will be in, rather than getting ourselves ready for the next Premier League season and how we improve our squad.
