Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

I agree but this policy still has the potential to cause some commotion in the market if they're "linked" with several players. In Guehi's case it's not as though he's really losing anything if his intention is to run his contract down and has the chance of joining Real Madrid, with presumably a large signing on fee & wages, at the end of it.
Not very Christian is it 😎

Sure but he may miss out on another club as he holds on for Real Madrid and it never happens. He'll always get a club whether it's his first choice?

Don't get me wrong I don't feel sorry for Guehi, if he is planning on running his contract down that is his decision, just pointing out that it is high risk.
It is but players might see it as one worth taking if Real Madrid is the prize. And the risk is mitigated - if it doesn't happen there will always be another club willing to sign them on a free.

I can see Real Madrid's benefit but for a player it's a high risk strategy.

Guehi would have to wait a full season and hope that Madrid kept their word with no guarantees that they didn't change their mind. I would ask Marc how many other players are Madrid talking to with the same offer?

I would also ask him do you really want to go to a club that is not prepared to sign you for a fee now? How much do they really want you? hardly turning over every stone is it!
especially as only last week they spent £50m on a young CB (Huijsen from Bournemouth).

Not sure they will be in the market for another CB unless Rudiger's age and current knee injury impacts performances next season.

Not sure I believe any Guehi to Real stuff. Let's remember that agents put this stuff out there to try and motivate other, more realistic, clubs to bid. For me a swap deal to Chelsea for Chalobah + cash would be ideal.

He played really well as the season went on and is in the England squad. We'd still need at least one more though, possibly two depending on Riad's injury situation.

Not sure about Chalobah, although the fact that he played here before is in his favour. He did pretty well, but Richards was equivalent level on the right-hand side and we really want a left-sided option, assumng Guehi goes (unless Lerma plays there).
Tuchel did pick him but he also chose Burn and Henderson and seems to prefer Konsa to Guehi so not sure what he is up to. Also, Chalobah was an unused sub in Chelsea's crunch games to make the Champions League. I'm hoping Glasner has another hidden gem CB like LaCroix

My view on Richards is that while he's a good centre half, he can't pass for toffee.

If I were building a team for the Premiership top half I would understand that.....Obviously though as we are going to lose our centre half captain we are unlikely to sell him.

But to break through as a side you need defenders who can pass well under pressure.

IMO, Mateta is a not for sale, Eze if his release clause was met, a fool to take any English club, and Guehi needs to extend his contract by at least one year, or be forced out, we cant afford any player of his stature leaving for free, amen.

I think there is a lot of truth to this.

Letting our top players see out their contracts so we can have one ok season in Europe is nice and all that but financially fruitcake-ville.

We need at least a one year contract for certain players if they are going to be here next season.

Romance is for those who can afford it.

I really hope so. I think we can all see what happens when OG doesn’t have his squad in place. Think where we would have finished if we had a proper pre season last summer. Don’t think OG will be happy if this happens again.

Get business done before the window closes for the club World Cup and give us the best possible chance.
Think I saw somewhere before the fa cup final that from game week 12 to game week 36 we would be 6th, 1 point ahead of city.

So the 60 yard ball he played to Mateta in the Cup Final which led to the goal was just an aimless kick out?

I think he is our best defender, more blocks, more headers won, most tackles won, maybe that makes up for his passing

He's a good centre half and I've said that, I just making the point that when it comes to better teams wanting out defenders he isn't the pick and I think valuations and interest would bare that out.

If we wanted to sell Richards he would be coveted by lower and mid table teams.

Our best defenders are Lacroix and Guéhi and my point is that to progress we would need to match that level.
