Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

Good he has been poor. Have friends who are Ipswich season ticket holders, they don’t rate him
Ipswich spent a significant sum on players in the summer signing some of the talented players from the Championship. In the end they were confronted with a plethora of options of a similar quality, they lost balance and the understanding they had whilst gaining precious little by way of PL quality and experience.
Liam Delap of course was a success and will depart before the start of next season.

OG wants to get new players into the club before the start of preseason. Makes total sense and means that they can adapt earlier to the way he wants them to play.

Perhaps the previous ‘Palace tactics’ of waiting for the last day of the transfer window to make our move is a thing of the past?

Their policy appeared to be sign mostly forwards, whilst being unable to defend

He has , indeed made this very clear on a number of occasions. SP has stated we have learned from our mistakes, let’s hope so! Otherwise OG will not be a happy bunny

Ipswich signed 17 players. They did sign defensive reinforcements in Goalkeepers Alex Palmer, Arijanet Muric and defenders Connor Townsend, Ben Johnson, Dara O'Shea, Ben Godfrey (Loan), Jacob Greaves etc.
The vast majority was spent on midfielders and on a forward (Liam Delap).

And they still got relegated! Shows, sometimes you can’t buy success! Now they have a huge squad that needs to be reduced before the start of next season.

I really hope so. I think we can all see what happens when OG doesn’t have his squad in place. Think where we would have finished if we had a proper pre season last summer. Don’t think OG will be happy if this happens again.

Get business done before the window closes for the club World Cup and give us the best possible chance.

Unfortunately, It's not something we can always control.
The most Recent windows have seen 1 or 2 signings made early, then more late in the window as clubs, including ours, trying to get the best value for players, or the players trying to get the best deal before making a choice.
i'd dare say the same will happen this time.

That approach (two or three in first part of window and extras in second part) will hopefully give OG what he (and we) would like. Before the window opens is the time to establish who will be leaving with Joel Ward, who is proving a very capable understudy, and who is ready to leave their existing club. Olise has had a tremendous season; it could have been said he was ready to leave.

Esse is proving himself as an understudy, what do we have and who is lurking in Championship; League One; and League Two?

They also had a manager with whom we were being linked before winning the pools with OG.

It wasn't a thing last summer..

It was the plethora of summer tournaments wot dun us.

Teams have tried with the team that got promoted and usually fail.

Teams more often try to buy survival as we tried under Holloway. This either worked (Forest, Fulham) or unbalanced the team which only came into form too late in the season after the side had a real chance to settle.

Its a tough balancing act with a huge luck element.

A new twist courtesy of Real Madrid.

I can see Real Madrid's benefit but for a player it's a high risk strategy.

Guehi would have to wait a full season and hope that Madrid kept their word with no guarantees that they didn't change their mind. I would ask Marc how many other players are Madrid talking to with the same offer?

I would also ask him do you really want to go to a club that is not prepared to sign you for a fee now? How much do they really want you? hardly turning over every stone is it!

I agree but this policy still has the potential to cause some commotion in the market if they're "linked" with several players. In Guehi's case it's not as though he's really losing anything if his intention is to run his contract down and has the chance of joining Real Madrid, with presumably a large signing on fee & wages, at the end of it.

Sure but he may miss out on another club as he holds on for Real Madrid and it never happens. He'll always get a club whether it's his first choice?

Don't get me wrong I don't feel sorry for Guehi, if he is planning on running his contract down that is his decision, just pointing out that it is high risk.
