Shelbourne vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Cos for Lincoln to make it through regardless of their result in Warsaw, they need Rapid to pull their heads out the ground and get a result in Bosnia.

Anyway it seems that "can he do it on a cold Wednesday night in Stoke" needs to change to "can they do it on a balmy Thursday night in Gibraltar" cos judging by their unbeaten home record, not many teams actually can. Would love a Palace vs Lincoln play-off tie if Palace have to settle for a play-off place, but while the Selhurst game would be a cake walk the trip to Gibraltar would be a potential banana skin.
I got your point. My question was just meant as a joke, because all Rapid fans (my son and nephew are regulars at the stadium) are currently going crazy when asked about Rapid's performance in the Conference League. Rapid usually have a reputation for surprising in European competitions. Maybe this season they'll do that at least in the last game at the lowest possible level. Although I'm not sure about that either.

Excellent result, good performance and decent rotation in what was a potential banana skin. Shels are limited but spirited, with passionate support and the pitch was a great leveller.

Uche and Nketiah performing individually and collectively, Yeremy showing he can do it in those conditions, all three showing there are goals without Mateta and Sarr, Sosa and Devenny doing a job, Daichi running the show, Esse getting decent minutes. Apart from a potential Devenny injury, all positives.

Shelbourne were outclassed, particularly in the first half and perhaps it was surprising that we never added to our goals tally after the break. I expected more of our opposition but the gulf in class was evident on the night.
I am not being disrespectful to Shelbourne when I assert that my assessment of the performances of our individual players is done through the prism of consideration for the quality of the opposition.

A lot in the League of Ireland are semi pro. I don't know much about the Shels squad but I doubt they're all full time.

I think we're in trouble in our last match. We have a manager who rarely goes for a win, consistently plays for the safe draw and struggles to rotate our very large squad.
Hopefully the club can sell off our significant players to give Glasner less of a team selection problem

🙂

It’s difficult to make much of an assessment on the game such was the lack of quality of the opposition.
Nonetheless, Uche’s performance was encouraging in that he showed awareness of where his teammates were and looked to exchange passes and take up forward positions.
Esse looks to have the ability to wriggle away from defenders with his wiry frame and close control, but he rarely moves the ball quickly or first time.
He looks to have a tendency to take one or two touches with flicks or back of his heel which are unnecessary.
Hopefully he will adapt to meet Glasner’s key requirement - ‘efficiency.’

Uche displayed more energy than Mateta but he is still in the 'Work in progress' category.
He is vastly inexperienced at the top level only completing 1 full season in La Liga before joining us on loan.

Agreed. However he makes up for inexperience with energy and physicality. Against a top class centre Half he maybe found out but against the rest I fancy him to cause all sorts of trouble.

He looked a lot livelier than JP has been looking lately that’s for sure, dare I say it, a lot more interested as well

Hope our coach is of the same view, a young striker with talent is s of huge value and rare.

I agree Bromley. He might be a 'work in progress' as Willo wrote, but last night he looked eager to work for the team and, given more game time, I'd like to think Ollie could make a decent player out of him.

Uche was not known for his goalscoring at Getafe, only scoring 4 goals in 38 appearances.
He did collect 8 yellows and 2 reds last season.
At least he'll be competing with Hughes. At this time of year, who doesn't want lots of cards ?

The time that Glasner might have to improve Uche could of course be limited.
I am not expecting Uche to return to Getafe in January but it is the model of plausibility that Glasner will depart at the end of his contract.
