Shelbourne vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Probably because Kamada is an attacking midfielder and Hughes is a defensive or central midfielder. Conversely Hughes is a much better defender. Really depends on the job you want at the time.

They are both really good players. But as you said not like for like. It's a nice problem to have.

It's not Andy Dorman vs Owen Garvan in 2011, though I actually liked Garvan because he could pass, but he had his detractors because he couldn't run. Or he could but ran in an odd way.

Kamada looks unsettling lightweight at times but does have top end pass quality. So often on the highlights he's involved with an incisive pass leading to a great chance or goal.

Hughes more resilient and combative but does combine so well with Wharton with short passing around the box. What he does for the team is clear and obvious.

Same comment for both. Wish their end product in front of goal was better. Especially Kamada who seems to get more decent chances. Put your bl00dy foot through it lad.

But if you looking for the casting vote on who is better for the team in most matches then presumably that belongs to Oliver Glasner. He chooses Kamada. We've won the FA Cup and 4th in the League.

Kamada isn't part of the problem. He's part of the success. But he's not everyone's cup of tea.

It’s difficult to make much of an assessment on the game such was the lack of quality of the opposition.
Nonetheless, Uche’s performance was encouraging in that he showed awareness of where his teammates were and looked to exchange passes and take up forward positions.
Esse looks to have the ability to wriggle away from defenders with his wiry frame and close control, but he rarely moves the ball quickly or first time.
He looks to have a tendency to take one or two touches with flicks or back of his heel which are unnecessary.
Hopefully he will adapt to meet Glasner’s key requirement - ‘efficiency.’
Esse really reminded me of Zaha, I’m sure he did exactly what Wilf would have done in the game in a few situations.

There was one moment in particular that really stood out, he took a run up the wing almost into the corner, dipping each shoulder successfully taking on 2 men but not into a particularly advantageous position, being still crowded on his right he then pulls off a great back-heeler in order to just pass back to the exact place he started from.

The only thing missing was a dramatic dive after realising he was in no-man’s-land.

I actually do like the skills he showed even though it wasn’t the most productive in that particular play. He did well in the game, but in both good and bad ways I did feel like I was watching Wilf again.

He also played a lovely cross field ball to feet at one stage.

Looking at his YouTube highlights from Germany he scored most of his goals after running from deep and shooting from the edge of the area - he also took some penalties.
Either it's easier to find space in the Bundesliga or he's playing strictly to order.

He's never really found his real MoJo here. I sat next to a Japanese lady at the Charity Shield and she was there to support him but she said even the Japanese fans thought him a bit of a left field character. The changing into the suit so quick after the FA cup win. She and generally in Japan thought that was hilarious.

Normally we go for the quirky characters in the UK but he hasn't quite made that connection. Contract almost up.

there were a few step overs which kept the defenders back which made space for a pass, and you could see he was using his skill to open up passing opportunities

Well, his pass put Nketiah through to set up Uche for the first. It didn’t take much of a press but he was the one pressing the Shels player who gave the ball to Pino who then set up the second. He passed to Pino for the third.

In a long list of positives about Palace’s performance against a lesser team, where I listed six individual players, he is legitimately one of them (he was fifth in the public vote for MOTM, well ahead of Will Hughes) and ‘Running the show’ is a reference to the song the fans in the ground were singing about him. Does that cover it?
Well said. He can’t tackle like Will, is a bit lightweight and easily bullied like Eddie, but his positional sense is excellent and his ability to spot a pass is second only to Adam. He was as you say key in all 3 goals and had a great game. Sadly he will always have his detractors here.

I am in agreement with the general thrust of these comments.
Some have not taken to Kamada like a young salmon to a Perthshire burn.

This is what type we need now. If we are to compete at the top you need to be technical in the middle of the park. Not big bruisers as they get torn apart on the deck. DK fits that mould of technical like Wharton.

Every club needs a Devenny.
Not a definite starter, but somebody who will do a job when called upon and very useful for a squad.
Has played for us in both wing back roles, in midfield and as a number 10.
Everything bar goalkeeper and striker.

To be a regular somewhere he needs to move , and I'm sure this will happen in the medium term, but for now I'm pleased to have him in the squad.

I am plugged-in to these sentiments.

Devenny and Lerma are both the sort of squad players clubs need. In Devenny's case his Wembley penalty indicated his temperament is sound anyway.
